Headights turn off for several seconds while driving then come on again eventually. Both headlamps go off together. Headlight switch in manual on position, not the auto on/off position which I do not use.
Hello NHTSA administrator, I bought a new Hyundai Genesis in March 2010. Around August 2010, I had a small fender bender in the parking lot. To keep warranty intact on the car, Hyundai insisted that the wiring harness on the car be replaced, which I did for approximately $5000. Since then, I have had multiple electronic items go bad in the car. I replaced some of these at my own expense. But the problem has gotten worse with some expensive electronic components going bad over the last 2 years. In normal circumstances, these components should not go bad over the life of the car, and certainly not at a frequency that they have failed in my car. I attribute these failures to bad/defective job done during wiring harness replacement. But Hyundai has refused to accept responsibility since the car is out of warranty. Below is a list of the bad components, approximate date of the component going bad, whether it is replaced/fixed and approximate expense to fix them 1. telescopic steering wheel--2015--repaired as part of warranty 2. power switch assembly driver's seat--Jan 2016--$236.19--paid out-of-pocket to get it replaced 3. jog dial assembly--Oct 2016--$1031.70--paid out-of-pocket to get it replaced 4. front cabin dome light assembly--Feb 2017--$376.91--paid out-of-pocket to get it replaced 5. smart cruise control--Mar 2017--not replaced--dealership gave me a quote of ~$4500 to replace 6. passenger cabin dome light assembly--Aug 2017--not replaced--$4500 estimate to replace 7. multi disc cd player--Feb 2018--not replaced--$1000 estimate to replace I would like NHTSA to investigate Hyundai for this matter and force them to pay for repairs. As a consumer, I feed cheated and being forced to double pay for repairs - once for the wiring harness replacement and now for all problems attributed to it. Headlights flash when switching from "auto" to "on" position. Occasionally the headlights in the "on" positon will blackout for 2-5 seconds until headlight stalk is giggled. There is an electrical "noise" (like a short circuit sound...a "pop") when switching from auto to on. The turn signals also seem to trigger the "short circuit". all of these conditions can occur moving or standing still.on any type of roadway.
Headlights flicker on and off when using turn signals. They will go off for as long as two seconds and then come back on. Very unsafe when driving at night. This will happen when the vehicle is in motion and also when on stopped position waiting to make turn.
The contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that while driving at any speed during night, when using the turning signals the head lights turned off intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was repaired but the failure recurred. The contact was unaware of what was replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

1) almost hit from oncoming traffic at a stop light, when I was attempting to make a left hand turn. The signal turned yellow so I tried to turn left before I realized the oncoming car was going to run the light. I took my foot off the brake and hit the gas to make a quick turn to avoid the oncoming car. The car stalled for a second as I pressed the gas into the turn, then kicked into full power, screeching the tires. I thought this was a fluke but his same problem of "stalling" for a few seconds when depressing the brake and hitting the gas at takeoff keeps happening intermittently. This is a dangerous issue. When needing to accelerate quickly from a stop, this car has a seconds gap from hitting the gas to the car moving. I've almost been hit twice because of it. 2) the headlights switch off intermittently when using the turn signals to change lanes or turn. They flash oncoming drivers as I click down to turn them on before the turn, or when the turn signal clicks back after the turn. This problem happens almost every time I drive the vehicle with the headlights on. The lights have shut off completely for about 5 seconds while I was driving down the freeway, impairing my ability to see at night. I had to immediately pull over on the freeway in an unsafe location to turn the lights off, then turn them back on to clear the problem. 3) my vehicle had the brake switch replaced from the 2013 recall. However, pressing the brake still does not shut off the cruise control when driving down the freeway. I have to manually turn it off from the button on the steering wheel. I love this car, but I'm afraid to drive my children in it if these problems are not addressed. This vehicle is unsafe and it is going to kill or seriously injure people. Please investigate these mechanical problems and issue the appropriate recalls.
Took my 2010 Genesis in for service...brake stop lights were not working. Replaced defective switch. Took my same car in for state inspection on September 9, 2014, brake lights not working again. Replaced defective switch myself because of 2 hour drive to dealer and the safety issue involved with driving vehicle. Something needs to be done! these switches should not fail this often.... this is a very serious safety issue. We don't know how long this switch was not working since there is no way to tell when you are driving the vehicle... thanks! I was traveling on highway roads and made lane change. Upon activating the turn signal, the headlights turn off and remained off until the turn signal was deactivated. This has occurred intermittently since. This seems to be very dangerous for night driving on poorly lit roads.
The brake lights on the 2010 Hyundai Genesis (and possibly other years/models Hyundai vehicles) have various problems with the brake lights failing to work. This is very dangerous not only to the Hyundai Genesis driver, but also for any driver following behind the car. There has been various factory recalls for the 2010 Hyundai Genesis brakes including one that causes the brake lights not to work due to a brake switch failure: www.cars.com/Hyundai/Genesis/2010/recalls however the particular problem my car and other Genesis owners have reported does not have a factory recall for it, even though it poses the some of the same safety issues that the brake switch factory recall had. genesisowners.com/Hyundai-Genesis-forum/showthread.php?T=3269 the root cause is diode that fails which cause the brake lights not to work. (this is different that the brake switch factory recall.) I don't know how many months I drove without having brake lights. My state inspection was in January 2014. A driver that was behind my car informed me my brake lights didn't work in May 2014. I had my car towed to the dealer due to the danger of driving when the car's brake lights don't work. Apparently Hyundai knows about the issue (according to the above link) : technical service bulletin 09-be-023, stop lamp Z01 diode inspection procedure, appears to describe the location and procedure for troubleshooting of the diode but describes the issue as "... vehicles may experience the stop lamps blinking on and off even when brakes are not applied." Why is there no factory recall for this problem? it can cause serious accidents which could lead to fatalities.
