The problem of black soot in the exhaust seems to go back a while. I was not aware of it until it happened to my car. Hyundai is smug about the problem. They know it exists but refuse to discuss stating only "this is consistent with normal operation of the vehicle". "This is a normal byproduct of the GDI Engine".
I have noted this has been going on for several years and no one has apparently made it an issue. I AM HOPING TO DO JUST THAT, SO HYUNDAI WILL ADDRESS THIS ISSUE SERIOUSLY. I have been advised that these particles can and will render my catalytic converter useless and based on what the experts are telling me: I'm already in trouble for Arizona emissions. I am working with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (Air Pollution) as the amount of soot pouring from my car, multiplied by all the Hyundai engines in the Phoenix, may be a part of our air pollution problem.
Aside from the obvious, hands and clothes constantly being soiled by this mess when entering the trunk, the attitude of Hyundai personnel is as negative as can be. After the initial contact, where they try to blow you off, things go down hill pretty quick. Refuse to return phone calls, do not supply email contact info and when you finally get through to someone they say they have been trying to reach you. I only have a cell phone and one email address (same info for the past 20+years) but they can't get through. Yeah, right!
Overall, I'm pretty disappointed in the Hyundai Warranty and their response to problems. Beware!!!!
