We were recently driving on the high way, when the ESC off and check engine light came on. My engine was still on, but I lost acceleration and had to pull over and restart the van. I had to do this three times before the ESC off light turned off and I regained the ability to accelerate. For the last two weeks every morning I will start the van and the same problem happens, I have to leave the van on for a few minutes and then turn it off and on again multiple times before the ESC off lights turns off and I regain acceleration. This is dangerous since we're now afraid to drive on the high way and lose power.

My wife and I recently took a 5,000 mile road trip. The first 4,000 miles we had no problems. However, when we were about 900 miles from home, we started having problems. We got ready to leave the hotel one morning and the ESC "off" light was on as well as the check engine light. You could floor the gas pedal, but only got 1,000 RPM's. the engine would run, but it had no power. I turned it off to go check it out, and when I came back the ESC light was gone, but the check engine light remained on the rest of the way home. The first day this happened, we got to 250 before it went into coast. After that, we could only drive about 70+ miles before it would start coasting again and we would have to find a place to pull off the road, turn the engine off and then restart it. It would run another 70+ miles and would do it all over again. The tms light would come on intermittently as well. At one point, I called our local dealer and he stated that it would be ok to drive it home in this condition. The main problem was in big cities (finding a place to pull over with the traffic) also, there was a lot of road construction with one lane traffic and nowhere to pull off. You can imagine the stress we were under. The reason for this letter, is mainly to make you aware of the problem. Needless to say, it could have been tragic. But, we were definitely lucky and were always able to pull over out of traffic going 75 mph. Updated 10/20/11

There has been a consistent whine coming from my somewhere within the engine for the last 3 months. Upon researching the cause of the whine we were able to narrow it down to the power steering oil pump. When we went looking for possible known issues, we came across a techinical service bulletin - dated August 2008 - addressing a whine noise in the power steering oil pump. I called the service department where I purchased the vehicle to ask about having the power steering pump checked, based on the tsb - I was informed by the service manager that "he" was the specialist and he would determine what the problem was - but first he would have to do a complete check on the engine (to the tune of about $450) to determine the problem. He then asked the mileage on the vehicle and when I told him, he informed me that since it was over 60K - it was outside of the warranty and I would therefore have to pay all out of pocket. Regardless of the fact that the tsb was dated August 2008 and that the tsb info was never sent to the customers - (was told tsb information was strictly for service technicians and the consumer did not need to know anything about it) since the problem began, my power steering has seize up three times - locking my steering wheel in place. So far, I have been fortunate that at the time I was just pulling into a parking space. But if this should happen while on a sharp curve - the car could very easily not come out of the turn and cause a severe crash. My main complaint - if there is a tsb and regardless of the mileage on the car - the service department should be responsible for correcting the problem. It should not fall to the consumers to be hit with a hefty repair bill because the vehicle is faulty.

This vehicle was purchased new in August of 2007. The car battery has gone dead 3 times for no apparent reason. All the doors were closed and no lights left on. It would just be dead. The dealership has replaced the battery and supposedly tested all of the electrical system and found nothing each time it was brought back to a Hyundai dealership.
