Elantra GT

I have an 2014 Elantra GT bought it new and have 55,380 miles on it. Went for an oil change at a local quick change service station on June 20, 2024 and the attendant told me I had less than 1 quart of blackened oil in the oil tank. The check oil light never came on to let me know that there was a problem. Had I not be diligent about getting oil changes, I would have not known there was a problem. I don’t drive the car much and put less than 3,000 miles on the car between oil changes, but because it was dated as “to be scheduled", I had it changed. The attendant informed me that he has seen other Hyundai vehicles with complaints of excessive oil consumption. With the lower mileage and the care I take with this car there must be a defect.

So apparently Hyundai has had a class action law suit for this year and model of car but has never done an official recall. I cannot believe they won't want to correct problem. My car is eight years old and I bought it brand new. I've always had all the required maintenance done at dealer. Never had a major issues until this summer. My car was making a really loud grinding noise so we took to auto shop as Hyundai couldn't fit me in. They said oil was extremely low and black. Not once did my check oil light come on, not from once!! So they changed it as and it ran just fine.

I only had 2000 miles since change and I heard that same noise, so I checked the oil and there was None!! I had to add 5 quarts but oil still black and now it makes a new sound when accelerating. I've never heard and not sure if I'm close to blowing engine or not. Once again, my check oil light never came on and this is crap!! I guess I need to notify media to bring it to the attention of others in my state and maybe all of us can file a new class action law suit so they can make it right.

It's really messed up my car is always ticking and jerking. I check the oil and it's bone dry. Like wtf, I just got an oil change last week, it seems like every few days I'm putting oil in my damn car.

Elantra GT Sport 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,000 miles

At 85,000 miles the 2014 Elantra GT would use two quarts of oil between oil changes. The cause was the PVC valve would get stuck and the increased pressure would push the oil into the engine. I cured this problem by changing the PVC but it happened again in 8 months. Then I replaced the PVC valve and injected the valve with WD-40 before I put it in and never had a problem with oil consumption again.

Elantra GT SE 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,000 miles

Bought this car brand new with 3.7 miles on it.

It has used oil since day one. I recently have to replace the Catalytic Converter. It was stopped up.

I have almost 170k on this car now and it uses a quart every 900 miles.

Other than that it is a good little car. I just think the rings are lined up on the #1 cylinder.

Elantra GT ES 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 4 miles

I bought this car with 3.7 miles on it. It has used oil since the day I bought it. It started about a half a quart in between oil changes. It is now a quart every 600 miles. No drips on the driveway. Nothing on the engine. It comes out the exhaust when running.

I have had to replace clogged O2 sensors and will be replacing the clogged catalytic converter again next week.

You can tell when your mpg drops about 3-4 mpg and it gets sluggish on acceleration.

Other than this, it has been a good car. I am thinking of tearing the engine down to see if the rings are lined up on the #1 cylinder.
