MY SON & I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA APRIL 14TH. ON JUNE 4TH MY SON WAS DRIVING HOME, AS HE TURNED ON TO OUR STREET HE HEARD A LOUD BANG AND ASSUME HE HAD A BLOW OUT. HE WAS JUST HOUSES AWAY FROM OUR HOME SO SLOWLY DROVE TO PARK IN OUR DRIVEWAY.
TOW TRUCK PICKED UP AND AND TOOK TO DEALER. I WAS TOLD TIRE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, AND THAT THE DAMAGE WAS EXTENSIVE. THE SUSPENSION AND OTHER THINGS WERE DAMAGED. THE TOTAL BILL WAS OVER 7K. I HAD TO GET OUR AUTO INSURANCE GET INVOLVED AS IT WAS TO MUCH FOR ME TO PAY FOR REPAIRS.
HERE IS MY THOUGHT ON THIS. I READ ANOTHER POST ABOUT A TIRE BLOW OUT AND I AM GOING TO KEEP SEARCHING ANY WEBSITE FOR ELANTRA TIRE OR SUSPENSION COMPLAINTS. UNFORTUNATELY WHEN WE TOOK THE CAR OFF THE LOT MY SON NOTICED THE TPMS WARNING LIGHT WAS ON. DEALER TOLD HIM "DON'T WORRY THIS CARS ARE VERY SENSITIVE AND IT IS PROBABLY JUST THAT TIRE NEEDS AIR"
THIS WAS MY SON'S FIRST NEW CAR AND THAT IS WHAT HE DID, HE DID NOT WORRY. I AM NOT 100% CONVINCED THAT LIGHT WAS NOT A WARNING THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG NOT ONLY WITH TIRES, BUT MAYBE SUSPENSION. THE DEALER SHOULD HAVE NEVER LET US DRIVE AWAY WITH A WARNING LIGHT. UNFORTUNATELY I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS LIGHT TIL AFTER THE INCIDENT.
I THANK GOD THIS HAPPENED TO HIM AS HE TURNED INTO OUR STREET VS ON THE FREEWAY. I DO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT MY SON MADE A BIG MISTAKE BY DRIVING OFF THE LOT WITH A WARNING LIGHT ON, NO MATTER HOW INSIGNIFICANT IT MAY HAVE BEEN. HE WAS ABOUT TO TAKE IT TO DEALER FOR HIS FIRST OIL CHANGE AND WAS GOING TO HAVE THEM CHECK THAT LIGHT RIGHT BEFORE THE 7K INCIDENT. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY OTHERS OUT THERE WITH MORE PROBLEMS WITH TIRES OR SUSPENSION.
