At about 70,000 KMs the car would have issues starting. When you would turn the key to start the car, it wouldn't even crank, it would just make one click sound and that's it. To make the car start I would have to try turning the key multiple times before the car started. Sometimes it would start more consistently when I would turn the key very slowly to start it. I asked the dealership to look at it, made an appointment but they said they couldn't do anything for me unless they could replicate the issue, they didn't even want to run any tests on the car.
Car got stuck in a plaza one day because it just would not start. All the lights, radio, etc were working. Got it towed to the dealership (FYI you most likely will have free towing covered for the first few years, just google Hyundai roadside assistance). The dealer said the battery was dead, I replaced the battery myself because the dealer wanted $430 to do it. Bought a Motomaster AGM battery rated at 760CCA for $200 on sale at Canadian Tire.
Even though the battery was replaced, a couple of weeks later the problem started coming back, the car wouldn't start, it would make the same "one click sound". Got the battery tested thinking maybe it was a dead cell but the test results for the battery came out fine. Car got stranded at a plaza again for the second time, car would not start no matter how many tries I gave it. Tow truck tried boosting it but the battery wasn't the issue, got it towed to the dealer. When the dealership looked at it they said the starter motor assembly was open. They're not sure how that happened but they ended up replacing it with a new starter motor covered under warranty.
If you experience this issue I had and your car is under 100,000KMs/ less than 5yrs old YOU DO NOT have to pay a single penny to get this fixed.
