While driving the steering light and traction light came on and the steering wheel locked, the shop adjusted the steering column then it happened again and they replaced the steering column and now, 3 months later it has happened again. I have spent $900.00 on it so far and it is currently in the shop. Luckily it has never happened on the highway. It is very scary when it happens.

THE STEERING HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE ABOUT 15,000 MILES AND THE DEALER KEEPS PUTTING IT ON THE MACHINE AND SAYS THERE IS NO PROBLEM BUT THAT SEEMS TO FIX IT TEMPORARILY.

Elantra ES 1.8L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission

The steering is to stiff. Much stiffer than normal. It doesn't occur until the speed reaches 40 to 45 MPH and stays the same with speeds up to 70 MPH. It's almost like an over steer. You can only slightly turn the steering wheel in either direction and it jerks the way the wheel was turned. Almost like the other complaint on this board, Hard to hold in a straight line. Checked air pressure in tires, tried changing the steering mode and turned the stability switch on and off but still the same thing. This is a potential accident waiting to happen.

Going to the dealership to have it checked out. Will keep you posted about the situation. We all know how dealerships can be. Hope the problem gets resolved.
