I entered into a lease a year ago this past Sept. on a brand new 2015 Elantra. I took care of the stupid car! I just actually had it serviced by the dealer on Sept. 11 to have the annually "checkup" and It had been running fine. There was no indication that anything like what happened would but, after only one year it only had roughly 20k miles on it so, it was still pretty new.
Anyway, two of my daughters and I had been out running some errands this past Sunday afternoon. Our total time in the car driving was maybe 20 minutes that the car was actually running, going into town. We made 3 stops and came back home. We weren't even home for 5 minutes before my oldest daughter came running out of her bedroom yelling that the car was on fire. My husband and I emptied a fire extinguisher on it after we called the fire dept. but the flames were only intensifying. In the 10 minutes it took for the fire truck to get there, the entire front end of the car became engulfed in flames.
The vehicle is a total loss. NOT happy... at all. I did like the car...but of course this changes things. I'm not even thinking about getting another Hyundai... ever again. I won't be recommending them either.
