CarComplaints.com Notes: We're not used to seeing any major problems with Hyundai, which makes the early signs of trouble with the 2013 Elantra very surprising, in a bad way.

Early trends show problems with the steering wandering / pulling to one side along with premature tire wear. Elantra owners have tried sensor adjustments, wheel alignments, even replacing axles, most with no luck. Hyundai has made vehicle buybacks through arbitration, but that rarely works out well financially for owners in the end.

Also there is a pattern of complaints about the 2013 Elantra brakes grinding at very low mileage. It seems there was a bad batch of OEM pads & rotors, but so far Hyundai is not doing a recall. Instead Hyundai issued a TSB & dealers have been replacing pads & rotors on a per-complaint basis.

The final straw is that for several years in a row, Elantra owners report significantly lower gas mileage than the EPA estimates, & there's a small trend of engine problems.

I had a rear tire blowout causing the car to stop rapidly causing me to hit my face on the steering wheel so hard I got knocked out. My foot pressed on the gas and I hit a parked car. And my airbags never deployed. Insurance didn't pay my claim because it wasy falt I hit a parked car. Because I was knocked out. I don't remember anything about 30 seconds before the accident. Had my airbags worked maybe I could have remembered what really happened. When the collusion center inspected my car they said a defect in the car was the cause of my accident. But the insurance already denied the claim. The yellow tab was the airbag sensor

After starting car i tried to put the driver left side seatbelt on. It seemed to be stuck and would not budge after trying to pull over me. I noticed other people who owned Hyundai cars same year also had the same trouble. When I called the dealership they gave me a quote of $500. Not only does is this a safety hazard but fraudulent as well. Hyundai Corporation sent me a letter stating it was not a lemon. I never said it was. But it is defective and should be recalled!

I have only had this car for three months. Two weeks ago the Air Bag light OFF kept appearing while driving. Then 3 days ago the driver side seat belt locked. It will NOT release. I have read a lot of forums from many others with the same problem from Hyundai cars. The dealership charges 500-1500$ just to fix 1 seatbelt. Its a safety problem as well as fraud.

On engine start up, the air bag warning light was activated indicating failure with either the airbag or supplement restraint system. Dealer diagnostics indicated the "clockspring" part had failed. This part has failed often enough that Hyundai has extended warranty on "some models of 2011-2014" Elantra, but not the model of my car even though it is the same part that is on all 2011-2014 Elantra models. Should it fail while the vehicle is moving, then the driver's airbag may not deploy during an accident or the supplement restraint system may not work. The "clockspring" part connects to the speed control system.

Front passenger in not able to buckle seat belt. When you try to latch the seat belt into the orange/red clasp holder, the seat belt will not stay locked into place. Now we wait to see if other seat belts become unlocked while driving or while in an accident. We are also down to only having 4 seats available in the car.

Takata recalls. My radio bluetooth doesn't work nor does the usb. I'm constantly having to change rear lightbulbs. When my car reaches a certain speed it starts to shake. My tire sensor put a hole in my tire. My seat belts will not connect. I'm just had to change the alternator. And the engine makes a ticking sound.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. While driving, the seat belt warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Hyundai of St. Augustine (2898 U.S. 1, St augustine, fl 32086, (904) 797-7800) where it was diagnosed that the clock spring in the steering wheel needed to be replaced because it was causing the seat belt indicator to illuminate. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that they would contact the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

The airbag light came on and stayed on - took to dealer to find out why - told the air bag control module needed replaced (code B1620) at a whopping cost of $1400! plus the $110 it cost me to have it diagnosed. I have a warranty however this safety issue is not covered and I find that very upsetting as there are many complaints on air bags not going off because of this unit! the car is 5 years old and has less than 100,000 miles on it. This should not go bad and if it does Hyundai should take care of it as it is a safety issue! how many people have to be seriously injured or worse die before Hyundai gets involved? its a safety issue that should be covered - obviously profits out weigh safety with them.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. While idling at a stop light, the contact's vehicle was rear ended by another vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. As a result, the contact rear ended the preceding vehicle. None of the air bags deployed and the seat belt failed to restrain the contact. The visor fell down and partially prevented further head injury. A police report was filed. The driver sustained hip bruising, back pain, right leg pain, face abrasions, and wrist pain (mainly the left wrist). Medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The insurance company towed the vehicle to senn's collision repair center. The vehicle was not diagnosed by an independent mechanic or a dealer concerning the air bag and seat belt failure. Within a week, the manufacturer was notified of the crash and stated that an investigation could take up to six weeks or longer. The contact was waiting on a response. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 13V115000 (air bags and structure). The approximate failure mileage was 83,000.

During merge onto a major dallas tollway, traffic became stopped in the right lane and upon applying a hard brake of my car, the anti-lock brakes failed to engage, the seatbelt did not lock, my car felt as though it was accelerating even though I was pressing the brake pad hard. I hit the car in front of me once and then again before my car stopped, still running. My car sustained $8500 in damage to the front end, but the air bag did not even deploy. I have owned it for 15 months and have not had an issue of this nature in the past, however I am now concerned of the safety of this vehicle.
