CarComplaints.com Notes: We're not used to seeing any major problems with Hyundai, which makes the early signs of trouble with the 2013 Elantra very surprising, in a bad way.
Early trends show problems with the steering wandering / pulling to one side along with premature tire wear. Elantra owners have tried sensor adjustments, wheel alignments, even replacing axles, most with no luck. Hyundai has made vehicle buybacks through arbitration, but that rarely works out well financially for owners in the end.
Also there is a pattern of complaints about the 2013 Elantra brakes grinding at very low mileage. It seems there was a bad batch of OEM pads & rotors, but so far Hyundai is not doing a recall. Instead Hyundai issued a TSB & dealers have been replacing pads & rotors on a per-complaint basis.
The final straw is that for several years in a row, Elantra owners report significantly lower gas mileage than the EPA estimates, & there's a small trend of engine problems.
Calgary Hyundai said there was a leak in the clutch to get fixed and it would cost a grand. Went to BC after the clutch started smelling and slipping. I think 120,000 kms is a little excessive for a clutch to go. I had it towed to Canadian Tire in Chilliwack and fixed there. At the last oil change at Calgary Hyundai they were saying my clutch was going and I am wondering if these guys are honest in there service. Now with engine issues I want to sue Hyundai for a new car.
Just before the vehicle was due for it's 60K service the clutch started to act up. Like it was going out. Johnson Hyundai in Cary said the clutch was bad due to my wife riding the clutch and the repair is $2000. We have owned Manual transmission vehicles since 1990 when we first started dating. We have never in all those years had to replace a clutch because none if us ride the clutch. When you pump the clutch pedal it works. A symptom of a slave cylinder issue. They refused to look at the slave cylinder. Fast forward 2 years, she is still driving the car with this same issue. Now they claim it's the clutch bearing going out. and still $2000 to fix it. I'll be replacing the slave cylinder and then going to another mechanic if this doesn't fix it. But it sounds like these cars have severe clutch issues.
I can't believe I have to replace my clutch on my 2013 Elantra GT. I've only been driving it for 5 1/2 years. About 122,000 km on it (city driving which I admit is hard on it). The mechanic said the clutch should be able to go until at least 160,000 km. Very disappointing. Not an expense I was expecting right now. I have to say I've never been super impressed with this car. The only car I've ever bought new.
