CarComplaints.com Notes: We're not used to seeing any major problems with Hyundai, which makes the early signs of trouble with the 2013 Elantra very surprising, in a bad way.
Early trends show problems with the steering wandering / pulling to one side along with premature tire wear. Elantra owners have tried sensor adjustments, wheel alignments, even replacing axles, most with no luck. Hyundai has made vehicle buybacks through arbitration, but that rarely works out well financially for owners in the end.
Also there is a pattern of complaints about the 2013 Elantra brakes grinding at very low mileage. It seems there was a bad batch of OEM pads & rotors, but so far Hyundai is not doing a recall. Instead Hyundai issued a TSB & dealers have been replacing pads & rotors on a per-complaint basis.
The final straw is that for several years in a row, Elantra owners report significantly lower gas mileage than the EPA estimates, & there's a small trend of engine problems.
I can't believe that brakes and rotors on a car with only 21,725 miles would need to be replaced and not covered under any warranty. There has to be an issue with this car and the dealer is not going to bat for me on it. Hyundai Consumer Affairs was a waste of my time as they defer to the dealer. This is my last Elantra for sure. Should have stuck with Toyota or Chevy
Our 2013 Hyundai Elantra has serious brake issues. First problem occurred at 48,000 KM, rear brake pads and rotors replaced and a complete brake service done. Now at 69,000 front and rear brake pads need to be replaced and all 4 rotors. With over 40 years of driving experience I have NEVER had these kinds of brake issues. At 48,000 KM the Service Manager at Castlegar Hyundai blamed the problem on the chemicals that were put on the winter roads.
Now at 69,000 KM the problem was dust and debris and not serving our vehicle enough. After reading all the complaints regarding the brake issues, I now believe that Hyundai has installed a poorly designed braking system and is using inferior quality parts. I have registered my complaints with the dealership and with Hyundai Canada, waiting to hear the responses. I believe that this should be an issue covered under warranty and that Hyundai should back there product properly.
The first brake repair cost over $500.00, this repair I was quoted over $900.00. Needless to say that I will seeking a second opinion. If this matter is solved to my satisfaction I may have to look trading this vehicle in and getting a new one. At this point I would not recommend that anyone purchase any vehicle from Hyundai.
