CarComplaints.com Notes: We're not used to seeing any major problems with Hyundai, which makes the early signs of trouble with the 2013 Elantra very surprising, in a bad way.

Early trends show problems with the steering wandering / pulling to one side along with premature tire wear. Elantra owners have tried sensor adjustments, wheel alignments, even replacing axles, most with no luck. Hyundai has made vehicle buybacks through arbitration, but that rarely works out well financially for owners in the end.

Also there is a pattern of complaints about the 2013 Elantra brakes grinding at very low mileage. It seems there was a bad batch of OEM pads & rotors, but so far Hyundai is not doing a recall. Instead Hyundai issued a TSB & dealers have been replacing pads & rotors on a per-complaint basis.

The final straw is that for several years in a row, Elantra owners report significantly lower gas mileage than the EPA estimates, & there's a small trend of engine problems.

Whenever I'm driving in rain or snow, the front brakes on my Elantra seem to grab and make a dull grinding noise. I mainly notice this during wet conditions, but I do notice it when driving at a faster speed and applying the brakes quickly and hard to slow down. I've made several complaints to the service center at the Dealer I purchased the car from and they have looked at this several times and have told me that nothing is wrong. I'm frustrated because my car has almost 50,000 miles on it and I've reported this issue several times. The car will be out of warranty soon and I'm afraid it is only going to get worse. The service center makes me feel as though I'm making this up and they are unable to replicate the sound and tell me this is normal braking noise, but I beg to differ. I've owned enough cars in my life and have been driving long enough to know that something is not right with the brakes.

I bought this car new on Memorial Day last year and I have had nothing but problems with this 2013 Elantra. I have taken to dealer and of course they can't duplicate problem! I guess I need to address this issue when it's raining or on a rough road. I would describe it as the ABS kicks in too soon and I am unable to stop! I have been on the phone with regent management and just had a short block put into the car for motor problems that dealer said I did not have for the last year! So do I believe the dealer or drive with at least 3 car lengths between me and car in front to avoid a wreck or just have a wreck? Why will the service dept not ride with me and I can show them my concerns! Or are they hiding something from the general public? Regardless if its raining a little bit or the road is rough I am unable to stop! I would describe my issues as if when you depress the break it is like the ABS comes on right away and the car pulsates though the intersection into on coming traffic. Never the less my brakes do not work right and I'm scared I'm going to hit someone.

I told the dealer when I was in for an oil change that this problem has been ONGOING since I bought the car but kept forgetting to tell them, since it was DRY out, when I bring it in and I kept forgetting to tell them!

Yesterday they WET the brakes to test this and said all was well. Then they took it thru the car wash and it was AWFUL! I rolled back to the lot and told them to test it NOW - as it was HAPPENING NOW! They said it was not an issue and perhaps, pnly perhaps, the car senses the wet rotors and grabs the brakes hard thinking it's reaching the metal but it's not a problem [for who?]

It is for ME! So they said to notice if this continues the whole time it's raining or wet outside. I'll trry to take notes the next time it happens.

I find this DANGEROUS and I am worried I'll get hurt because it feels like I am slamming on the brakes when I am only tapping lightly. NO fix was considered.
