CarComplaints.com Notes: So far the 2011 Elantra doesn't have the same volume of transmission problems that 2010 owners are fighting with. It also doesn't have the same pattern of steering and braking complaints that are piling up with the 2013 model year.
We're not saying the 2011 is perfect -- I mean, what were they thinking advertising their MPGs -- but there are worse choices.

It's been a total waste of our time and money, we have been totally ignored by dealer and manufacturer. We even took the car in and had it driven by their auto experts and they achieved the exact same results as we did. We only use the car for long distance driving and stops are almost non existent.
We tried talking a dealer into letting us test drive a 2012 Elantra for about a hour with him present to make sure we got 40mpg before purchasing the car. However when we got there we didn't even see a Elantra on the lot instead he tried to sell us a Sonata Hybrid. The dealers won't even stand behind the their advertisements or the stickers on the windows of the cars. We were verbally promised 40mpg average. Now they won't even guarantee in writing at the purchase of a new car that it will attain what they promise!
We get so angry as the government allows this to continue. We give Hyundai our hard earned dollars with no recourse when the car doesn't live up to the promises in black and white!!! We're getting 8-9mpg less than promised and that add up to a lot of money as we have to take long trips each week to care for my terminally ill mother.
