CarComplaints.com Notes: There's an emerging trend of transmission problem with the 2010 Elantra at fairly early mileage.

So far owners report having the transmission replaced under warranty but that won't hold up for much longer. It may be a bit premature but for now we're putting the "CLUNKER" rating on the 2010 Elantra just to be safe.

Speaking of being safe, you might not be unless Hyundai can figure out why their airbags aren't deploying.

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

My tire pressure light came on tonight and stayed on. I took it to my son's to have him air up the front tires which were looking low. He looked at both tires, frowned, reached to the inside of the tires and said "holy sh*t, Mom! You need new tires NOW". He then explained that both front tires on the inside edge have a row of tiny metal points sticking out. He said it is caused by the front alignment being "toe out" instead of straight. I said "so..I need an alignment when I get the tires?" His comment "hell yes... but get the tires and then take the car straight to the dealer because the alignment is a factory default, NOT anything you did!" He says he's never seen one that bad, and I'm lucky the tires haven't shredded on me! And of course this is when I have no money to spare. Oh yeh, and the rear tires are fine - plenty of tread and great shape!

I am going to call the dealer tomorrow and see if this (including tires) is covered under my warranty. If they tell me no, I will figure out how to go higher up! At barely 20,000 miles, I had to have a new transmission put in. The first six weeks I owned the car (bought it new), I got a ding the size of a pencil eraser. The paint next to the ding split for four inches that same day. I've had nothing done with that, but the dealership concedes there was a problem with the paint on that year/make.
