On Thursday, April 30,2015 I pulled into a parking spot at my local bank. I brought my vehicle to a complete stop, placed transmission into park. With my left hand on the drivers door handle and my right hand on the ignition key, I proceeded to turn the vehicle off. As soon as I turned the key back, both front driver's and passenger airbags were deployed. I was stunned by the loud explosion and smell from the smoke in the powder of the bags. I was the sole occupant in the vehicle. I did not collide with anything or did anyone hit me.
I am the original owner of the vehicle and it has never been involved in any sort of collision or fire. The vehicle was towed to the local Hyundai dealer where it sat for 5 weeks in order to conduct an investigation from Hyundai Auto Canada and Transport Canada.
After 7 months, they have informed me that the Supplementary Restraint System was working properly at the time, and that the vehicle's computer received a signal that a crash had occurred and to deploy the airbags. I did not sustain any serious injuries, only some hearing loss in my left ear.
I feel that this is a serious matter and that there is a problem with Hyundai's Airbag crash sensor's or modules. By looking at my photos anyone can see that there was no collision involved and that Hyundai is trying to cover up a very dangerous problem.
