This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
While traveling in traffic on the long island expressway, the gas pedal was released and it returned to its raised position by its spring. However, the accelerator cable did not release causing the vehicle to continue accelerating. With both feet on the brake pedal trying to stop the car, it still impacted the vehicle ahead. Subsequent to the accident, the sticking of the accelerator cable could be replicated intermittently. By tapping and redepressing the gas pedal to the floor the cable would release. At this time, the damage to the car has prevented investigation under the hood. The vehicle damage will be repaired at a shop recommended by my insurance company.
