While driving about 30 mph the hood latch failed and the hood blew off (shearing the hinges) into the windshield and side view mirror. Fortunately no one was hurt, but it could have been catastrophic hood, hinges, latch, windshield and side mirror needed to be replaced.
After entering the highway at speed of 65-70 mph the hood came flying open. There was no light in the car showing the hood was open prior to this. The car when out of control and crossed over four lanes of traffic. The hood was nearly bent in half over the roof of the car. Luckily no one was injured. The safety switch holding the hood shut is broken. The hood appears to remain shut.
While driving, the hood released from the hood latch and flipped open breaking the windshield and causing an accident. There was no indication that the hood latch would fail. There were no previous accident or damage to the latch.
