Bought car April 4, 2023 with 119,000 miles. Had mechanic check out for problems. Had to replace horn and rear taillight. About 5 wks later, oil and engine light came on. Mechanic found black oil nearly empty. I had to monitor it's oil usage for a couple of months. Result, my 2018 accent was burning off 1 qt for every 65 miles driven. Told nothing can be done by Hyundai, out of warranty.
Told by mechanic 2 choices: keep monitoring and topping off oil until engine died, or spend $8,000 to replace engine with another Hyundai engine. Had no more money to put in car. Spent money on oil, new battery, tires, oil changes, tail light again, key fob and alignment last summer.
Returning from VT last month, engine started seizing, jerking, all over the place, idling high and low, and shut off a few times while key on. Barely got home safely. Had it towed and found that spark plug had broken off and battery cable was broken off. Had that fixed $532. When driving out of the lot, the engine started smoking and died. Mechanics found engine cylinders scored up (presumably by chipped spark plug pieces). Now saying the catallytic converter is bad and engine bad.
Called local Hyundai dealership and left message with service department about new engine last week. No one has called back.
Cannot decide what to do. Lost ALL my savings on a car that had a bad engine, etc. Found out that Hyundai has known about these engine problems for years and years! They will not stand behind their cars!
