Vehicle would not shift from park to drive. Brake lights didn't illuminate. Vehicle towed to local garage, where it was determined the brake light switch was defective. 30 minutes and $80 later the problem was remedied. Hyundai has had multiple recalls of their brake light switches, but each time the apply the recall to a very narrow selection of models, of which this aforementioned vehicle is not included. Stranding a 19 Y/O girl in a dark parking lot at 9:30 at night could have resulted in a less favorable outcome. How many other unfortunates suffer because of a failure on the part of Hyundai to step up and fix an inexpensive part.

I was unaware that Hyundai had issued a recall on these vehicles back on September 2, 2009. My car started not wanting to let me shift out of park, after I had applied the brake to do so. Just last night October 2, 2013. I noticed that my brake lights were on and not my headlights, and the car was in park, and the vehicle was off. I will attempt to get this fixed at the Hyundai dealership in enterprise, al. I hope they will fix this safety issue, as I have readed other complaints from people across the nation have had with this and dealerships have refused to comply and fix this free of charge. Hopefully the dealership will fix it.

My brake lights malfunctioned causing them to stay depressed and lit up until I disconnected the battery. Now they won't even come back on. I was also having issues with the shifter and it was stuck in the park position. I found out through NHTSA that Hyundai recalled thousands of vehicles for these same problems back in 2009. They said any of these malfunctions could lead to a crash. I had one representative from Hyundai tell me that they don't honor NHTSA recalls. The dealers refuse to replace the stop lamp switch on my vehicle because they won't even acknowledge the recall. The recall that began on September 2, 2009, campaign 092, the article cited to contact this puerto rican phone number 1-787-999-4310 but I can't get through. The dealerships are not very helpful at this point and in fact the service manager at one dealership was extremely rude and stated that he would not work with corporate when corporate decided to back me with the recall. He told me that since my car was having those issues that it was a safety issue and that his recommendation was that the dealership honor that and fix my vehicle, but they refuse. I have no working brake lights and I need help in resolving this issue in a timely manner. Thank you.

My brake lights do not illuminate when pressing on the brake pedal, and my automatic shift is stuck in park unless I press the button in the small hole located to the upper left to unlock it. I was informed by Hyundai that it sounded like I had a broken switch located by the brake pedal and that it was causing the brake lights to not register when I pressed in the brake pedal. I have an appointment for tomorrow but if there was a recall done on other VIN numbers and mine isn't listed I'm going to be upset.

In September 2009 (exact day unknown), the brake light switch on my 2005 Hyundai Accent began intermittently failing. As a result, I was unable to shift the vehicle out of park approximately once out of every three times I started the vehicle, but was able to remedy the issue by depressing the brake pedal with an exaggerated degree of force within 1-5 attempts. On November 25, the switch ultimately failed. As a result, the vehicle would not shift out of park without employing the shift lock override. Since November 25, I employ the shift lock override but have not yet replaced the switch.
