Re: [xxx]; 2000/ Hyundai/Accent failed auto transmission October 17, 2005: Drove vehicle to denny hecker Dodge Hyundai at roseville, Minnesota. Regular driver, reported transmission acting up, shifting erratically, downshift hard. Car jerk forward and check engine light on. Serviced October 17 at cost $ $560.97. In dealers invoice the following items were noted: "failed trans range switch; failed trans pulse generators'scan for codes=P0700 TR switch-short;P0722 output spd (pg-B)open/short. The same invoice reported the transmission fluid level and condition were poor". after 3 weeks while on interstate 90 trying to accelerate above 50 mph daughter reports car strained but could not get into a higher gear. "check engine light on again. Same problems. Failure to accelerate for merging safety hazard.stopped driving vehicle. Took car to local garage for second opinion. Mechanic reported :transmission 1-2 shift is ok but 2-3 shifts are very late and erratic. Transmission has hard downshifts and starts out in second at times. Transmission fluid is two quarts over-filled and is dark. Transmission fluid stinks, like lots of additive has been added. Transmission is very noisy when in park and neutral and has a grinding noise. Goes away in reverse. Passed information to Hyundai's dealer November 9. asked to bring car in. November 11 phone call from dealer who said transmission had failed. New transmission cost $ 2,200. Corresponded with both Hyundai's California headquarters and dealer and asked to take care particularly since mileage on odometer was just below 60,000 miles. Dealer refused and argued 2nd owner warrant expired after 60 months. Have not heard from Hyundai renewed demand. Also demanded Hyundai to advise, basis their records, whether motor vehicle has been rectified for defects which were the subject of several tsb's. have not received any response. Vehicle jumped out gear while parked on the street and hit a tree. The ignition switch was taken out. Insurance informed that the vehicle was totally lost.
On my Hyundai Accent I have replaced the transmission three times and now it is about to be a forth time and I have only had it for a year and a half. The transmission will go up to 55-65 miles an hour and then wine really badly and then shake bad to. Third time to happen. I believe with the lemon laws they owe me a new car.
When taking off from a stop engine would rev up but transmission would not shift. While driving on highway transmission would not shift into overdrive.

My transmission has failed 7 times and replaced 4. it is still presently slipping. The factory rep. Was of no help however, the service department at college park have been extremely polite and understanding. Sam carlin, jim thomas, and jeff peleruzzi. Dispite all that has been done my car does not and has not run right. Might I say also that I got my oil change and because it was done improperly my engine blow in the middle of route 50. Hyundai needs to pay for my lose and suffering.
Vehicle locked up while driving at highway speed of 55 mph, dealer notified and informed that the problem was the transmission.. consumer stated vehicle has locked up 3 times previously.
In snow, icy or wet road conditions this unpredictable loss of RPM's and power train response makes car handling and control very difficult. We are aware of other complaints logged on auto forums in the usa and that is why we are reporting this to draw attention to a potentially much bigger problem. We have had this vehicle in for warranty repair 8 times over 10 months. They say they have never heard of this problem, yet there are other internet reports of the same problem. They say they cannot fix it, which means, difficult to control cars are on the road. We hope this helps the us consumers identify this problem in an import vehicle in your country.
Whenever vehicle has shifted into gear it would stall out. Have taken to dealership to have mechanic check it out. Consumer states vehicle has to be warmed in the summer and winter or it will stall, dealer informed consumer that nothing could be done.
