The main hood latch failed while the car was traveling at approximately 45mph. The secondary latch also failed (the spring holding the latch in place was never engaged) and the hood blew open, folded back and smashed through the windshield. Neither the driver or the two passengers were injured, however both the driver and the front seat passenger were showered with glass. Police did respond to the scene and determined that it was the latch system that failed. The hood has not been opened except by the dealer when the car was purchased.
