This is my 23rd new vehicle since 1958. Also my first and last Honda. I purchased it new in 2006, took real good care of it always using Mobil One with oil changes 4000 miles no matter what the Maintenance Indicator said. Most time the Indicator said I was at 60% before requiring a change, but I just changed oil anyways. Dumb me!! So at 71,000 miles there is a very loud knock in the engine, loud enough to hear it 200' away. I take it to the Honda Dealer and they say I need a new engine for $8500 or a used one for $5600. I'm taking the used one, selling the Honda and telling everyone I know to never buy HONDA

Ridgeline RTL V-Tech 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 49,000 miles

Took Ridgeline in to Honda for service for ticking sound in engine bay. Was told with the mileage on the vehicle, that the noise is normal. After doing research on the internet I come to find out that this is a common problem. People have referred to the noise as valve slap and usually suggest that the valves need to be adjusted. Never had to have this done with any other vehicle I've ever owned. Bought my first car at 17 and now I'm 53. This truck has less than 50,000 miles on it.

I guess we're just supposed to ignore the looks we get from our neighbors and others when driving around with this ticking noise.
