CarComplaints.com Notes: It's worrying when the top category for 2016 Honda Pilot problems are transmission problems. Owners report jerking when accelerating. Also as the first model year of the redesigned 3rd generation Pilot, it's not a good sign.

Honda released a TSB on October 29 2016 that's possibly related. The TSB deals with a "a judder from the torque converter lock-up clutch ... while driving between 20 and 60 mph" due to deteriorated transmission fluid resulting from "specific driving conditions". In the TSB, Honda states they are developing a software fix to try to keep the transmission fluid temperature within spec.

We are keeping a close eye on this defect trend because if certain driving conditions can affect transmission shifting in the first year of ownership, we'd hate to think what 10+ years will do.

Keyless start system problem error message in the instrument cluster. "walk away lock feature" stopped working. When I get out of the car, the car beeps once, but the locks never "lock". I have tried both fobs and the same thing. All I get is one beep, no matter what I do. Car will start and run.

Intermittent 'keyless start system problem'. it's very concerning and whenever I bring my car to the shop they seem to have never heard of this issues before. Car works, but it is scary to wonder if my car will suddenly turn off or not turn on. Please have this investigated.

Right before it's turned on and while driving. I get an error message saying "keyless start system problem". then vehicle will sometimes not turn on randomly. Have not taken the vehicle in for repair because I did much research and many people have taken their 2016 Pilot to the dealer and after spending money, the dealer could not fix it.

Previous complaint NHTSA id 11111894 submitted 7/17/18. For car stalling after entering into auto idle stop. Replaced battery in August 2018 and didn't have any problems until now. Has happened at least 3 times now in Sept. And Oct 2019.. at first, radio or dvd player would cut out but has progressed to full on stalling after entering auto idle stop. Same problem as before and all other complaints. After car goes into idle stop, it does not restart after take foot off brake. Have to put car in park, press brake, and push start button to get it to restart. Can take several tries and several minutes.

This vehicle is equipped with an auto engine idle feature that idles the engine when you come to a stop. Sometimes the engine idle coincides with the moment that you would accelerate to continue going forward, and the engine stalls completely. This requires the vehicle to shut down and restart. It has happened to me on several occasions after I have started to accelerate with people behind me. Fortunately the vehicles behind me have not started to accelerate themselves or otherwise this would have caused a crash. It happens when the vehicle anywhere the vehicle is required to stop and go, such as driving through town.

On October 24, 2019 at approximately 10:00 am cst. Engine completely lost power while driving at approximately 65 mph on interstate I-80. Was in the left lane passing vehicle in right lane. Another vehicle was ahead of mine. Tapped the brakes to slow a bit as vehicle in front was merging right after passing. Hit the gas pedal and all power to the engine was lost for about 1.5 - 2 seconds. Tachometer dropped to 0. took my foot off the gas and then re-engaged. Power to engine came back on and was able to resume normal vehicle operations. Auto engine on/off feature was disabled. Regular cruise control was on, had been set but wasn't currently engaged. Parking sensors were on. Lane departure was off. Forward collision warning on. No other issues for the rest of the 1300 mile (round) trip. We have had this vehicle for about 1 year and this is the second time this has happened. First time was not reported or documented. If engine/power hadn't been restored, there could have been a serious accident. This cannot be normal vehicle operation. Please look into this Honda and NHTSA.

The keyless start system light has been on for several months. We brought the car to the Honda dealer and they replaced the key fob. The light went away for a little while, but returned. Once in a while it goes away, but it always returns for no reason.

I have a 2016 Honda Pilot with 41K miles on it and out of the blue a light came on saying there's a "keyless remote system problem" checking online and it seems to be a issue with the majority of this model and around the same mileage. Some owners can't start their car and the Honda dealer has no answer. They charge you about 200 to try and diagnose.

At ~30K miles, the keyless start system periodically fails - issuing a warning (audible & visual) when starting/turning off the car. The visual warning persist while driving. This system also results in a failure of the walk-away lock feature. The issue isn't apparently tied to the car's battery or the key fob. There is no pattern to when this issue will occur.

'keyless remote start problem' keeps appearing on my dashboard. Is inconsistent and does not have any pattern to turning on. It will turn off on its own as well. Longest amount of time it has lasted is 24- 48 hours without turning off. I have changed the batteries in the key fob

I keep getting 'keyless start system problem' error when I push start my engine. The car still drives but I am worried it will not detect the key and stop driving one of these days without warning or engine won't start without any warning. I have changed battery for my key, it does this to both of my car keys, and it doesn't happen all the time but more than half of the time I start the engine. Upon investigating online forums, others have this problem and have tried to fix it by going to dealership to replace internal units, changing car battery, resetting the internal unit, changing the push start button, etc., but the problem comes back. So I am hesitant to spend money on something that won't be fixed. I made appointment to fix it dealership and that whole day the error message did not pop up, but the very next day it came back. I hope this isn't some electrical issue...

Factory stereo. I had brought my car to lia Honda in enfield to see why the factory radio works for everything but the sirius xm radio. They told me it would need a new antenna after having the car for three days and not knowing what was wrong. Car has 58827 miles on it and is a 2016. They want to charge me 750 dollars to replace my antenna.

I bought this vehicle as a "certified pre owned by Honda" and four days after the purchase the car was parked in my driveway, in "park" when I hit the start/stop engine button and the vehicle didn't start. Alarms started to go off so I assumed it was the key was still inside the house. As I went inside to check, maybe a few seconds, when I went back outside the vehicle was gone. I found it in my front yard. It had rolled off while in park without engine on. After getting it towed to Honda, days later I was informed that there was a problem with the start/stop engine system and that it also needed the entire A/C system replaced. Attached you will find the photo I took of the vehicle still in park when I found it in my front yard.
