CarComplaints.com Notes: Previously we had awarded the 2009 Pilot "Seal of Pretty Good", but have since removed that honor due to all the continuing complaints about excessive oil consumption.
This Honda Pilot oil consumption defect was subject to a class action lawsuit in 2013. However not all 2009 Honda Pilots were covered by the settlement & by now the warranty extension has expired. The oil consumption complaints keep coming in.

Honda is totally aware of this issue but because it is not a "safety issue" they will not do anything about it. When the vehicle goes into ECO mode it causes potential issues as follows:
Excessive oil usage, fouling spark plugs, "Motor Mount" failures, misfire codes P0303, P0304 etc, excess noise and vibration.
I have now had the misfortune of experiencing all of these on my 2009 Pilot
After a class action suit in the USA Honda extended the powertrain warranty to 10 years (not made public). I have had the warranty work done to fix the oil burning, code faults and fouling spark plugs in May 2015. Now November 2016 the engine mounts are failing.
This is a warning to all Honda V6 owners with VCM technology. Get rid of the vehicle before this happens to you. There is no permanent solution from Honda. The repairs will not correct the problem since it is an inherent design flaw in the VCM system. They are simply Band-Aid solutions. See the video at the website vcmdisable.com. I am not affiliated with them or even recommending their product as a fix. I did not choose to purchase it. But the video there offers real insight into the issue.
If you don't mind the unpleasantness of a vibration in your vehicle while coasting then you'll be fine. But if like me, you spent a considerable amount of money even on a used Honda, which supposedly has a great reliability and resale reputation, then this will be unacceptable. Honda should take complete ownership of this issue. This is my last product from them. This is my 4th Honda. I have owned a 2002 & 2004 Odyssey with sliding door issues and transmission issues. 1998 Accord with no issues.
