However the transmission failure is a far more expensive problem, with the average repair cost at well over $3,000. A major transmission recall of over 1 million Honda vehicles back in 2004 dealt with transmission damage due to overheating, but 2003 Pilot transmissions have continued to fail.

Recall transmission issue, dealer in area did not want to do repairs. Consumer was told that there were no parts available to repair her vehicle. Recall campaign id number : 04V176000
04 V 176 000/automatic transmission: The consumer was unable to get this recall honored by dealer because no parts were available. Consumer has been waiting since September 4, 2004 and the parts were still unavailable.
Consumer received recall 04V176000 for replacement of the transmission. Mechanic replaced the oil set pump. However, the problem recurred, and had not been resolved.
