This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Panel behind the gas pedal and brake pedal is missing. This exposes a large area of electrical wires. A driver will easily be able to get his feet there while stretching his legs and intentionally mess up the wiring. This is an electrical fire hazard and also a safety hazard. Pictures uploaded. Earlier models (2006 which I own) has a majority if this area covered by panel. I contacted the dealer and they said it is normal for 2018 models of Odyssey.
"takata recall" second: Upon closing the rear sliding doors they became stuck in an open position. It took stopping and physically closing them to ensure they would close and lock. Upon research Honda has a recall for this brand new van for the sliding doors as well but failed to mention it during our recent service and complaint. The vehicle was parked and loading.
Automatic door on the passenger side closes as passenger tries to get out of the van. Door bounces back and forth and almost injured the passenger. On a separate occasion, the same passenger side door was being opened from the outside and halfway after it opened it bounced and closed almost injuring my son and the preschool teacher.
Purchased vehicle towards the end of the month of February 2018, thirty days later the driver front door would not open from the outside. Tried unlocking the door from the key fob and door remained locked. Inserted the key in the cylinder and was a bit hard to turn the cylinder to unlock. In order to open the door I had to open the rear driver slide door and come in through the back to open the door from the inside. Even then the inner door handle was hard to pull. This create an issue and inconvenience as this is a family car, having this issue in very humid day only makes it worse. I have read online that people are complaining about this issue and the dealers do nothing to fix this issue. I have taken it to our local dealer and they said that Honda is currently investigating the issue. It has been like this for months.
Sliding doors do no close at times. It is inconsistent and when taken to the dealer they cannot replicate. There are numerous complaints online as well as videos of the issue. I had an issue where the passenger sliding door stopped opening altogether. The dealership said they replaced the mechanism that opens the door as well as the sensors on both sliding doors to address the closing of the doors. The passenger door was able to open once more, but not even a week after I experienced the issue with closing the doors once again. To close the doors, we need to repeatedly press the close button when the doors are trying to open back up, but that doesn't always work. This is a safety hazard for various reasons.

Driver's side sliding door won't close.the issue actually presented itself the day we purchase it and they service department called it a "hiccup". when trying to close the door, the sensor beeps three times and then reopens. I have to disengage the doors to manually close it or be ready to "help" the door continue on the track to closing. Passenger side sliding door completely stops in the track half way without warning or any beeping. I took the van back to the dealership over a month ago and they said that they still have not heard back from Honda (as of today) as to what needs to be done to correct this issue.
Sliding doors will not close. Sometimes the door will close almost to the end and then recoil or the door will not close at all (it just beeps). A large number of people appear to be having this issue with all sorts of fixes that are not solving the problem (https://www.odyclub.com/forums/81-2018-Odyssey/309801-driver-S-side-sliding-door-stopped-closing.html#/topics/309801?page=6) and appears related to nhsta complaint number 10136418. Dealer inspected and replaced motors on both doors per Honda's recommendation. Problem immediately reappeared making it so the door cannot be closed unless disengaging the power to the doors, exiting the vehicle, and manually closing the doors. It happens every day and is getting worse.
Both driver and passenger side rear sliding doors often fail to close using the electric closing system. This is dangerous if not noticed because the doors are not latched. This happens while the vehicle is stationary.
Passenger sliding door stuck in open position as the latch has broken. Door will not closed into position. I tried to close using manual and automatic door closing options to no avail. Luckily it happened in my driveway so no injuries or accidents.
Customer states intermittently right side sliding door does not close properly, sliding door ajar light comes on while driving, right side sliding door will not close using automatically, having to manually/forcefully push door close, has happened twice dealer ship did not do anything as they are not able to duplicate the issue. This is safety concern as it is happening while car is in motion and the door is opening. With kids on board it is always risky. I stopped letting them sit on that side.
The passengers side sliding door would not open automatically. The open/close button on the dash would not open the door either. The key fob wouldn't open it. We shut off the automatic door feature and the door still would not open manually. This is a huge safety issue. After driving the car home, the door opened without issue.
The sliding door can't be physically close after it was open, the vehicle can't continue to drive to a destination with the open door if kids inside, and the door can't be closed even manually.
The right back sliding doors does not close when the close button is pressed. I have to put the car on manual operation to drag the door shut. Even then, it is not completely shut the "open door " alarm goes off for up to 10 miles and then eventually the door shuts completely.
I was driving our 2018 Honda Odyssey elite on highway and the sunroof glass exploded. We only have 2500 miles on the car.the Honda dealer of bellevue wa are trying to make us pay because they didn't find anything wrong with the sunroof. We will make a complain with Honda of America.
