CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2014 and 2015 Honda Odyssey shows an early trend of transmission problems with clunking/jerking when shifting gears.

Most of these Odyssey transmissions are still under warranty, but so far Toyota generally hasn't been able to diagnose or fix the clunking problem — that's the reason for our low rating. Some owners have reported it was a stuck solenoid, & in a few cases Honda has replaced the entire transmission.

As more of these Odysseys start exceeding the 60,000-mile powertrain warranty limit, buyer beware.

On November 19th I went to start up my 2015 Honda Odyssey and the dashboard lighted up like a Christmas Tree. The check engine light, traction control light and LDW and FCC were all on. There was only 95000 miles on the car. There was no warning either really that something was wrong earlier. The van was driving fine no leaking or weird smells either.

We took the van to Honda McGrath in St Charles and were notified of this very expensive repair $6909. If we didn't have such a high balance on our loan left, we wouldn't have done the repair. When we purchased this van 2 1/2 years ago with only 56000 miles on it we never imagined a repair like this before it was paid off. All our repairs have been less than 2000 on previous used vehicles with expected problems like brakes and tires. Our 2006 Honda Odyssey with 182000 is still doing well. Piston rings for Cylinder 1-3 were replaced as well as the spark plugs on 1-4. The repair is only guaranteed for a year or 12,000 miles. Sadly I read this problem often reoccurs again due to the engine being a VCM. When we were at the dealership several employees mentioned that they have seen this problem before on Honda Odyssey Vans. I know there was a class action lawsuit earlier, not sure why this problem wasn't solved after that. I feel I should be reimbursed for this repair in full.

2nd error code P0302 in one year. Dealer said piston rings need to be replaced at cost of $3000. It was from misfires in Cylinder #2. Honda regional rep offered to cut cost to $1500 which is completely unacceptable. Honda knows there is an issue with engine misfires due to the tolerances in the piston rings and the engine deactivation of cylinders for improved gas mileage, yet they have done nothing to solve this issue. This is a known manufacturer defect and as such should be covered fully.

Longtime Honda owner and now last time Honda owner. For anyone considering a Honda, stay away until they resolve these issues at the engineering/manufacturing level.

Vehicle lost power while driving on the Interstate at about 65-70mph. Check engine light began flashing and the traction control light came on solid. When slowed to under 40, it was clearly running very roughly. Had vehicle towed to be repaired at the dealership. Issue was described as misfiring spark plugs so I had all 6 spark plugs replaced due to nearness to 105,000 recommendation to replace them. Problem return in April of 2020.
