I had the same problem mentioned here. It looks like this issue only happens on the 2014 model. Brought it in to the dealer the first time and of course they could not re-produce the issue, hence no fix! The second time it happened to me was couple weeks ago and I complained like hell to the dealer. I even printed out all the complains here and show them for the past 4-5 years, almost no one was complaining about the transmission, but the 2014 model already garnered more than 18 complains.

I even told the technician how to duplicate the problem. Drive the vehicle in a stop-and-go mode, not more than 5-10 mph for 10-15 mins., then accelerate, the hard shifting of gears will occur. Luckily they were able to re-produce the problem the next day. They contacted Honda and they have a fix. It appears to be a software update.

Honda already knows about this problem, please have the dealer to contact them immediately.

P.S. Just got the van back last night, will try it out and let you all know if it fixed the problem.

I experienced the same problem. Driving at relatively low speed and while van was changing gears there was a LOUD clunk and jerking of the car so much so that I thought we'd been hit by another car. Luckily I was very near our Honda dealership and drove straight there (clunking continued along the way). I managed to get a service tech in the car so they could experience what was going on first hand (I didn't even put the car in park). My local dealership kept the car for a week trying to replicate and finally they were able to with the computer attached so they had a snapshot of info to send to Honda CA. They drained the transmission fluid looking for particles, but nothing was there. They replaced a secondary valve body via instructions from the tech line. I hope this is a permanent fix. Love my local dealership. They always stick with the problem until it's found.

My Odyssey 2014 purchased a year ago had the low speed Jerky problem tonight. It appeared suddenly when we increased speed from 0 to 30MPH. It was really scary. Luckily we were only ten minutes away from home when problem occurs. It repeated every time when we increased speed during those 10 minutes, I would say it repeated at least 5-6 times. I am going to tow it to the dealer tomorrow morning. If you can help to share your experience regarding how dealers deal with this type of issue, especially if the car is under warranty, it will be greatly appreciated!

Please contact me. We are having the same issue with our minivan and refuse to pick it up from the dealer, it has been there since September 29. The Honda engineers are telling us that this is normal operation of their eco-transmission and we feel that this is unacceptable. They've changed the minivan for 2014/15 to a 6 cylinder and say that it has to do with the eco-transmission shutting off 3 cylinders. They are FULLY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. Yet, Honda claims that it is not a problem, that it safe to drive.

We have an email from our service center stating that they replicated our description on the parkway and Honda was working on a software fix. Honda corporate says they are not working on a software fix because the engineers say this is within its normal function. Our children are afraid to ride in this vehicle and I will not drive with fear and anxiety. Similar problem to what others are reporting. I was driving slowly up a fairly steep mountain pass (we live in CO) and when I was going around switchbacks I noticed some pretty sever jerking and the van just wouldn't engage. It was somewhat terrifying -- there was an incredibly steep drop off on one side of the road and I didn't have cell service to call anyone. We were able to get to our campsite where I noticed a sharp, burning odor.

I took it into the Honda dealer when we were back at home. They were able to replicate it once (when they were pulling it out of the bay) but couldn't find the problem after almost a week. I commend them for their efforts but I have lost faith in the van and am a little annoyed that I spent so much money on a vehicle only to run into these problems. After a month, I haven't experienced the same level of the problem but it doesn't seem to be shifting as smoothly.

Brand new 2014 Odyssey. Stop and go traffic, A/C on, very hot day. Suddenly huge clunk and hesitation as I'm accelerating from a stop (or very slow speed). So much so that I thought I had run over something. Happened several more times during that traffic jam. Wanted to take it directly to a dealer, but it was Saturday night and we were heading out of town for a week of vacation. Hasn't happened in the 3 weeks since. Not full on, anyway. I noticed it "catching" a few times, but nothing like that first day. Don't usually drive in those conditions. Hesitant to take it to the dealer because they probably won't be able to replicate the problem. I called the service dept at my local dealer and, of course, they hadn't heard of anything like this. Very frustrated to be having problems with a brand new vehicle. Sister-in-law is shopping for a new small suv and, after she heard some rumours (not even from me) about new Hondas having transmission problems, she's not even looking at the CRV.

Update from Sep 12, 2014: Took the van into the dealership and they ran the computer diagnostics on it, but no error codes show up. The guy admitted that they've already replaced a few transmissions in these vans. I still haven't had a repeat of the original problem, but I do feel it catching slightly now and then.

Update from Jun 3, 2015: Happened again yesterday - out of the blue - nearly a full year after the last occurrence. Not in similar traffic/weather conditions at all. It was a nice spring evening, I had driven on the highway for about 10 minutes and then doing some normal city driving for about 5 minutes. The only common denominator was that I was running the A/C. I was not far from the dealership, so I called them and brought it in. It happened about 15 times in about 20 minutes of driving. Some of clunks/jerks were quite hard. Left the car running and, despite calling ahead, had to wait quite a while for a tech to take a drive with me. Luckily, it happened again a few times, albeit not really hard ones, with the tech in the van. So I get back to the service desk, the tech gives the guy his report and my only option is to make an appointment (this was all at the end of their workday). I tell the guy I'm afraid to drive it - might be ruining my transmission or, even worse, might somehow cause an accident - and I ask what my options are, ie. loaner or rental. Nothing. The warranty doesn't cover any of that. I'm pretty worked up by this time as I don't feel that I should've been put off the last time I brought it in back in September. The service guy is pretty much confrontational the whole time. Never heard of this problem. Thinks I'm a total flake and lying that I had even brought it in back in September. It was unpleasant. I left. And, luckily, right back to the status quo of no problem. So, I plan to make an appointment, probably next week, but I'll be contacting the service manager to discuss my options before I take it in.

Only wish i could get in contact with the complaint that came from person in Virginia on April 17. Post #2. My vehicle is doing the EXACT same thing and i was told the same that they couldn't duplicate and no one else had complained. I refused to except that due to the fact i haven't even owned the vehicle more than 30 days. It jerks, stalls, and sometimes will not engage in forward or reverse. This is a nightmare. The dealership has now had my vehicle over 2 weeks and has contacted the honda tech line. They agree that we are the ONLY people to ever have this complaint. Starting Monday they are going to begin pulling parts starting with the transmission. Gotta love buying a brand new van that you can't drive and they are putting in new parts on. If i wanted this i should have just bought an old clunker and told them to put in new parts. Would have saved me a whole lot of time that a working mom of 3 kids does NOT have. This is INSANE and no one seems to want to find a solution. Shame on HONDA for allowing this to go on!

The description is that of others....traveling at a relatively slow speed and then needing to accelerate onto an on ramp, highway, or just accelerate fairly quickly and then a sudden very loud banging noise and hesitation in acceleration that seems to be from transmission. This is very disturbing. As others have said previously you almost think you were struck from behind. This last time there were three very loud and separate banging sounds. This has happened to me a few previous times before bit now it's been dropped off. I'm totally discouraged about what I'm hearing from previous complaints.

Update from Nov 25, 2014: Had vehicle in today again for re-evaluation. Unfortunately they car did not buck...of course. I had done a lot of reading and thought perhaps he torque converter but this did not appear to be the problem. There was a soft ware update installed before I took it out for a test drive.

TRANSMISSION MAKES LOUD CLANKING NOISE AND SHUDDERS VIOLENTLY AT 10-20 MPH DURING ACCELERATION. ACCELERATION THROUGHOUT RANGE IS EXCEPTIONALLY SLUGGISH AND WILL NOT ENGAGE "PASSING GEAR" AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS MAKING THE VEHICLE DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AT LOW AND HIGHER SPEEDS.

PROBLEM STOPS WHEN VEHICLE IS STOPPED AND RE-STARTED BUT MAY REAPPEAR. DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM AND STATES HONDA HAS HAD NO OTHER COMPLAINTS OF SAME. I SUSPECT IT'S HAPPENING TO MORE PEOPLE. IN MY OPINION, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION, ESPECIALLY DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THE FACT THIS VEHICLE IS VERY LIKELY TO BE USED FOR HAULING CHILDREN.
