CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2014 and 2015 Honda Odyssey shows an early trend of transmission problems with clunking/jerking when shifting gears.
Most of these Odyssey transmissions are still under warranty, but so far Toyota generally hasn't been able to diagnose or fix the clunking problem — that's the reason for our low rating. Some owners have reported it was a stuck solenoid, & in a few cases Honda has replaced the entire transmission.
As more of these Odysseys start exceeding the 60,000-mile powertrain warranty limit, buyer beware.
Just purchased from a Mercedes dealer who received it as a trade-in. They didn't identify the problem which is disappointing. Fortunately, I noticed it during the test drive and will either be satisfied with the repair, or I will return the vehicle to them.
Just started noticing at around 40mph the car shudders and of course most of my streets speed limit are 40mpg. Haven't done anything since it just started. Car has about 140k. Bought for long trips (college trips, vacations, visiting distant family). Recently paid car off. Worried that I'm gonna need a new transmission. Should of got another Silverado, 2003 still running great with no major service.
At 50k my car(2014 Honda Odyssey) was not shifting smoothly from 2nd to 3rd and at exiting to 4th. Contacted the service department Jim Colemen Honda in Clarksville, MD (originally purchased the car) and was asked to drop the car off for the entire day.
I got my car back the same day same day. The service manager explained that there was a Techinical Service Bulletin per Honda #17-043 that was due and the slippage and juddering issues now have been resolved. The vehical was driven 50 miles which was part of 3 stage transmission flushing process. The firmware was also updated at no cost. This service was performed at the manufacturer's expense and I was not charged for the work that was performed.
I drove out of the dealership with my car now shifting like new. Honda Corp. also extended the powertrain warranty to 8 years 80k miles. Its great because this shows honda recognizes the issue and they are willing to stand behind it.
My 2014 Honda Odyssey just suddenly stopped working. Upon taking it to a certified Honda Dealership, they told me its a P0303 Engine Misfire. Honda had a lawsuit with the same issue but 2008-2013 Odysseys. The diagnostic report states $3,000 to fix the issue.
Has anyone had luck getting Honda to cover the repair costs?? The 2008-2013 models have the exact same issue and the repairs were covered. What can I do ?
Have a Honda Odyssey 2014 with 39,000 miles on it. When on a slight ramp I slow down (below 20 mph) but don't come to a stop and then accelerate, the car seems to hesitate for a fraction of a second and then with a jolt starts accelerating. Does not happen on a level road or an incline.

I have a 2014 Odyssey that I didn't take right to the dealer with my issue. My fault, but now I am out of warranty by 7,000 miles and no one wants to help me (the dealer nor American Honda directly) I am having a known service bulletin repair done on 3/23 which will be at my expense ($350.00) and if that does not fix the issue, I will need a new transmission, also at my expense. I have a shuttering/jutter/shake when I switch gears at 20-25 mph, my husband noticed it only at low RPM and not if I happen to be at a higher RPM. I also have a revving around 50-55 mph where my RPMs quickly fluctuate until I get over that gear hurdle. This is why I am convinced the $300.00 fix won't work and I probably need a whole new transmission.
Update from Mar 25, 2018: I did have the dealership fix this on 3/23 following the service bulletin 017-44 issued on 2/28/18. The software was updated and the fluid was emptied multiple times. All AT MY EXPENSE due to it currently being out of warranty. I have complained directly to Honda and to the dealership and I was left with no recourse due to me not being a good will candidate for partial reimbursement. I have contacted the BBB as well since I feel this is a known issue from Honda and I should not have had to pay the 350.00 for the fix.
Within a month purchasing a new 2014 Honda Odyssey, I noticed the transmission was making a loud (jerking) noise when the vehicle slowed down (for stop sign) and accelerating.
After few times, I took the vehicle to the dealership, and they told me that it was "NORMAL" for Honda Odyssey with "ECO" system. I knew it was BS but had to take the vehicle to my house. The same problem continued for several months. I stopped by the dealership 2 more times and inquired again and again but the rep was kept saying the same "NORMAL". Then, my transmission gear stuck in either 2nd or 3rd while driving in Washington D.C.
Unfortunately, I had to drive in low gear (stuck) to the dealership via I-495. By the time when I arrived at the dealership, I could smell a strong odor of burning from the transmission. The rep came out and smelled it too. (DO NOT TURN OFF THE ENGINE.)
When the engine was turned off and re-started it, it was acting normal again. The rep told me that they could not duplicate the problem but would check it. (BETTER...BECAUSE THEY ALL SMELLED BURNING)
Few days later, the rep called me that they would replace the "TRANSMISSION OIL" but nothing wrong with the transmission. I was really pissssssed. I wanted to scream at him but ... and, demanded to talker to the manager.
The manager said the same.
When I called the American Honda Association, they appreciated my business because I purchased over 6 Honda/Acura vehicles but would not make a decision unless the dealership request the transmission replacement request.
I went to the dealership and requested all my repair/complaint print outs... (They had to do it because I demanded the dealership to document my complaint every time I went to the dealership.) Then, I spoke to the manager in person. After showing the several complaints, I told him to find the remedy for this otherwise, I will contact the Government consumer affair and attorney's office. He asked me to wait.
After 2 weeks later, they finally agreed to replace the transmission and upgrade the software.
After replacing the transmission, it runs good but I don't know whether it will do it again. So, I decided not to purchase HONDA anymore. HONDA quality is not same as it used to be....
Feels like a shuddering or slipping of the tranny between 20-30MPH while accelerating. Its really really bad. The tac will jump around too. Tranny seems to be shifting a lot. Progressively getting worse. No error code. Feels like a clutch slipping on a manual vehicle (but this is obviously automatic). Started happening before 70K miles, but not sure exactly when. Unless Honda fixes this, I am never buying another Honda again. This is my second odyssey in 14 years and BOTH have had transmission issues.
