Freeway exit ramps were most noticeable. It wasn't until I was bombing down a mountain pass with a fully loaded van at night that they really shook. Usually it is the front brakes because they do most of the work. I took the rotors off the van and brought them to a local O'Reilly Auto Parts store that could re-surface them. The guy said they looked good when I brought them in, and he only had to take a little off. When I put them back on the problem was solved.

At first, I thought that the brake pads had over heated the front rotor discs, and warped them. I purchase lifetime brake discs the were drilled and slotted, and eventually had the shuddering problem come back. I did more research and found an article that said the Honda Brake pads were creating heat spots on the discs that created a drag on the pads, hence the shuddering of the steering wheel. Once this happened, I had the OEM discs turned, and I told them about the heat spots. When I picked them up, he said that he saw what I was talking about, and actually had to run them twice to get it all out. Now I had driven about 12,000 miles on the turned rotors. On Labor day weekend, I was driving in the Sierra Nevada Mtns and guess what? Heat spots on the front rotors again. I still have the OEM pads on the front, and they created heat spots on the drilled, slotted, lifetime rotors, and the OEM Honda rotors [twice]. Replacing pads next.

The shuddering steering wheel on the 2011-2014 Honda Odyssey has been well documented on various website, but Honda does not acknowledge the problem which is documented on this website on the Pilot, CRV and Accord. Therefore, one would conclude that it is a brake system design problem that Honda is ignoring. Apparently, they are willing to forgo the return of hundred or thousands of customers. Great business decision!

Noticed when driving at highway speed and then having to brake there would a pulsation and the steering would start shuttering. Dealer diagnosed it as warped rotor. Mentioned that this happened due to my driving habit. Would not cover it although it is still under 3 yrs 36000 warranty. Said that brakes are not covered. Really upset because I am not an aggressive driver and don't use frequent and sudden brakes, I think Honda is using substandard parts in the rotor trying to cut cost. Honda should look into this problems seriously. I will think again before purchasing another Honda vehicle.

Rotors warped at 23,000 miles and they said it was my fault...not the brakes, the rotors! I paid to have the rotors resurfaced and new brake pads (although I didn't need them) and then again at 47,000 miles same exact problem. The service guy said it is general maintenance like brake pads and tires!

This is not general maintenance it is crappy rotors!!!
