I'm a researcher, bought this van specifically because of this awesome website! So this complaint is honestly a bit petty, the overall mechanics on this van as reported by CarComplaints was "Spot-On" perfect! Once our paint began to peel above the windshield, we noticed other "white" Honda Odyssey's doing the same thing.
We spoke to several mechanics and then a paint specialist at a huge car dealer in a large city close to us. He knew exactly what the issue was. Apparently, the "Taffeeta White" used on these Honda Odyssey vans was the only paint they used "Enamel Paint" on. Because of that, it would peel off, starting mainly above the windshield.
We contacted Honda personally and they reported "There have not been enough complaints to warrant a recall". Really? Every White Honda Odyssey in our town has the same paint problem. I'm persuaded this is national as well. So how can Honda say that? Oh well, officially my last Honda!
Midnight blue oearl paint is badly worn away on the front portion of the roof and under the windshield. It's only eight years old, but because of this it looks like a beater. The car has only ever been hand washed. I fear the problem is only going to get worse.
We have a 2010 Honda Odyssey in excellent condition. However, one day I noticed that the paint above the windshield is peeling in large chunks. Our van is kept in the garage and is very well maintained. I am very unhappy with this issue.
Paint is peeling off in fairly large pieces mainly above windshield, also on one door (very small). Seems to peel off in fairly large pieces leaving smooth primer underneath, had no problem with clear coat before this happened.
Extremely disappointed in Honda. Have had Hondas for decades, first problem with paint. Most disappointing is Honda's refusal to address or assume responsibility.
NOW WE'VE ALL HAD MANY CARS AND SOME DO BETTER THAN OTHERS. THE HONDA PAINT HAS TO RANK LAST ON A LONG LIST OF PAST PAINT JOBS. IT HAS LITERALLY PEELED OFF THE TOP OF THE CAR BY THE WINDOW AND SUNROOF AND HAS LOST ITS CLEAR COAT SO THE PAINT JUST DOESN'T LOOK GOOD.
WHEN YOU ASK THEM ABOUT IT THEY RESPONDED WE DON'T COVER THAT . YOU MAKE SUCH A GOOD CAR BUT CANT GET THE PAINT RIGHT? C'MON. I SEE MORE WHITE HONDA VANS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS MINE. THIS IS AWFUL.
Honda has extended warranty on limited models during this time-frame using Obsidian Blue, having the clear-coat paint issue. But, they dealer says Honda has to say this specific vehicle is affected. Looking at the paint it should be clear, Honda can't know specifically what cars had defect if using this paint. This is a 2010, but manufactured 2011, so likely during same period as 2011-12 Honda Odyssey program.
Have had the vehicle less than 6 years, and the paint has started peeling off the vehicle between the windshield and sun roof. Contacted dealer, and they do not seem very interested in helping me.
I bought a Honda Odyssey back in June 2015 and out of nowhere this March the paint started peeling off the top of the van in the front between the windshield and moonroof. I'm hoping that this can be resolved by the dealership we bought the van from or a Honda dealer. I have never had this problem with cheap vehicles and now that I've bought this van which is not so cheap, I have paint issues. NOT HAPPY!!!!!!!!! Any suggestions?
I paid almost $38,000 for this van, it has not been in any harsh weather or waxed etc. There are two huge areas on the roof between the windshield and the moon roof that the paint is gone down to the metal in big sheets about 6 inches wide and all the way back to the moon roof. It looks terrible! I have read a lot about paint issues and feel they should repaint the van at no cost to me.
I'm glad I found others that have had the same problem. I thought maybe I had done something wrong (although I know nothing of any rock dings or other abuse to the car). The paint just started peeling after we bought the vehicle used, and it's getting worse fast! It's literally peeling off in thick sheets, the way nail polish does when it's too thick. I have two spots over my windshield and I wonder if this is going to become a problem all over the vehicle. I also noticed a drip mark in the paint by the gas door. I'm pretty upset about this.
I don't know how to get it fixed but I guess my first step will be with a Honda dealership. I hope others who have had this issue will please report back whether they were able to resolve the issue, and what was done about it.
Honda dealer says that peeling paint is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty. I purchased a separate clear-coat warranty from Simoniz and they also said it is not covered under their warranty. I have owned multiple Hondas over the years and this is the first one where the paint started peeling off. I am very disappointed by the response from Honda.
We had the windshield replaced by a very reputable glass dealer (after the prior place installed the wrong glass and it cracked right down the middle). They put 2 pieces of tape from the top 10" or so of the glass up onto the area between the windshield and the moon roof. When I attempted to remove the first piece, starting on the glass and peeling upward - GENTLY, a 12" wide(!) section of paint came with the tape. (After freaking out) I tried the other piece starting from the painted area, going down toward the glass - being even MORE careful. Same result.
Took van to glass place - they said it was defective paint. I'd have to agree. Modern paint jobs should not peel off the metal in big sheets! Next step is to go to dealer and see what they can do. I'll update when we have word from them.
