I had extended warranty on this car, but this does not cover paint. Went to dealer to make complaint. Was rejected. I have 2000 VW Golf , after 10 years both fenders were replaced because rusting. My son has black 2013 Honda Civic SI , paint peeling off inside of the sunroof, complaint rejected too. No more Honda.

Paint has been peeling off in large pieces, mainly on the hood and roof. Some smaller areas on the sides. Dealership has stated there is no recall and Honda states the same and directs me back to the dealership. Honda's Customer Service stated I should have it repainted to fix the problem, my expense, of course. I do have higher mileage now, although the problem started many, many miles ago. The car is in great shape otherwise but is embarrassing to drive with the paint peeling off. It is unlikely that I will ever buy another Honda after this, knowing that Honda does not stand by their products and fix their mistakes.

My 2009 Honda Odyssey has paint peeling off it really bad. I am the original owner and took great care of this car from day one. I see other cars (same make/model) on the roads with the same issue. I had a gentlemen pull over the other day to ask me about my year/model etc because he had the same car, same issue. From what I am reading Honda is not offering any help on this issue.

Only 70000 miles and paint started peeling off. I have 9 vehicles, Mercedes 1998, 6 Chevrolets 93, 98, 09, 10, 15 and nothing has peeled. Only the Honda. Very disappointing for $40000 van. Won't buy another Honda for sure. I'll be placing a sign letting all know who see ugly paint job.

3 months after we bought the car, we took it to a sister dealership for a free oil change and car wash. When I picked up the car, there was a paint chip the size of a quarter missing from the hood. The dealer said they could pay for 1/2 of the paint job to repair the paint. I asked for the entire amount and they said no. Now the missing paint is about 1 square foot. There is also a leak in the roof and the sliding door fills with water when it rains.

Last year we noticed the paint on the roof almost near windshield disappearing. It's almost like the wind friction is rubbing the paint off as I drive and it keeps getting worse. I just started to look online to see if anyone else has this issue. It's a shame. I only have 60,000 miles on a 2009 it should still look like new, we take care of our stuff- I love the bali blue color, but clearly there is something wrong with it.

I DO NOT KNOW IF HONDA HAS HAD ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THE YEAR VEHICLE BUT IT IS JUST GETTING WORSE BY THE DAY. I HAVE NOT HAD A WRECK OR HIT ANYTHING AND I HAVE NEVER HAD ANOTHER CAR EVER SO THIS. THIS IS THE 2 VEHICLE WE HAVE HAD WITH HONDA AND WE LOVE THEM AND WE PLAN ON STAYING WITH A HONDA IN THE FUTURE BUT I AM ASHAMED TO DRIVING MY CAR DOWN THE ROAD. SO I AM WONDERING WHY MY VAN IS DOING THIS AND IF THERE IS SOMETHING THAT COULD BE DONE TO HELP US FIX THIS PROBLEM,

THANK YOU

The white paint is peeling off in sheets on the roof of my Odyssey right down to the primer. It is also coming off one place on the side of the van. It is horrible looking and should certainly not be happening with only 65,000 miles on it. I had planned on keeping it for another year or two, but I am not sure that I will do that now. I always swore by Honda, but I don't think I will buy another one after this mess. I was backing out of my driveway and huge white flakes of paint were blowing onto my windshield. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I got out and looked at the van and saw the roof paint peeling up. After reading similar complaints on this site, I am convinced there should be a recall and Honda should fix this problem for free. There is definitely a problem with the paint, primer, or application. My previous vehicles were all 10 or 12 years old when I traded them in, and none of them ever had a problem like this!

We noticed a small paint spot on the side of the car and then within two weeks two more appeared on the top of the car. It is obvious this is paint flaking/peeling off. Very frustrating. Dealership says there is nothing they can do. We do not use auto car washes and this is not from rocks etc.

THE PAINT ON MY VEHICLE IS COMING OFF IN STRIPS ON THE HOOD AND THE ROOF. MY VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION INSIDE AND OUT BUT SUDDENLY THE PAINT IS COMING OFF. I WENT TO MY HONDA DEALER BECAUSE I FOUND OUT THEY HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE PAINT COMING OFF THE CIVIC, ACCORD AND ODYSSEY. THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THEY KEPT INSISTING IT WAS ONLY THE CIVIC THAT HAD THE PAINT PROBLEM. I WILL NEVER BUY A HONDA AGAIN!!!

I am the 2nd owner of a 2009 White Honda Odyssey and in Spring 2015 my paint suddenly started flaking off in strips to where the primer is showing. I've written to Honda's corporate office and mailed them pictures. I have taken the van to two separate Honda dealerships.

The first dealership shrugged their shoulders at me and said there's nothing they can do it's out of warranty. The second dealership I went to had their District Service and Parts Manager inspect the van after admitting that the entire paint job looked cloudy but that the flaking could be caused by tiny rock chips under which moisture gathered, causing the paint to lift and flake.

About a week later (Feb. 2016) the District Service and Parts Manager said there was nothing they could do and that the flaking is caused by rock chips. I call bullshit and going to keep going after Honda until they fix the paint.

If anyone else has this issue, please reply to me. I am going to collect stories to submit with a Better Business Bureau complaint as well as a Consumer Complaint with the Ohio Attorney General's Office. Thanks!

I do not know when the paint started peeling, as most of it is on top of the roof. It could have been going on a long time, as I have not climbed up to inspect the roof; one normally does not expect the paint to peel. The car was bought new in Ft. Walton Beach, FL in May 2009. I believed we were negotiating on a 2010 model, as we had previously been looking at 2010 models in Pensacola. Only when we were to sign the deal did I find out it was a 2009 model. By then I was too tired since I was the only caretaker of my husband, a 100% Disabled Vietnam Veteran. We purchased an extended warranty, which I will never do again if I buy another car. One thing I know for sure: I will NEVER buy another Honda as long as I live! Neither will any of my family! My children will not either!

I brought the car to the dealer. They took pictures and supposedly sent them to the North America Honda in CA. I did not hear back, so I called repeatedly. I was told by one of the Advisors that it was denied. I tried to get in contact with the Service Dept Supervisor, but was told he was with a customer; he was sick; he had left for the day. It was obvious he was avoiding me. I wrote a letter to his boss, and one to the CEO of Honda, North America. Then he finally called. He said he would send me the letter of denial. I had to go out of state, so I do not know where the letter is. I got a call from a person at the office of the CEO, telling me they (Honda) took no responsibility for the paint peeling. The Honda Dealer I bought the car from told the Honda NA that it would cost 5K to fix. I have an estimate of 2.2K. The extended Warranty does not cover paint. The estimater told me Honda did not put enough paint on the vehicle. The fact that 2011 and 2012 models of Honda Odyssey have been recalled due to paint loss tells me they are very prudent with the paint on their vehicles!! Or cheap, cheap, cheap!!

I meant to go on Honda's website and complain: I found where to do it once, but they cleverly make it so hard and I cannot remember how I found it before, so I searched for other ways to make my complaint. I believe that this started before I reached the 36K miles. What is such a joke is, that when all this was going on, the dealer sent me letters trying to sell me a 2016 Honda Odyssey!!! How ironic is that? This is a Honda Dealer who's Sales Manager could not print me out my Extended Warranty!! Preston Hood is the name of the owner. By the way, they have a lousy service department too. Whenever I am out of town, I take it to the local dealer where I am,for service. They screwed up my Security System one time they did maintenance on the vehicle , and after They were told it was not the battery that needed to be replaced one time, but that something was draining the battery, they replaced the battery anyway and did not try to find what was really the problem. So the next day the battery was dead as a door nail, and I had to bring it back, and when I came to pick it up, I was told they really could not find what was wrong, so they took a guess at it! So my confidence level concerning the Preston Hood Dealership is nil!! I will buy a Toyota or Chevrolet next time!! Oh, by the way, I was told it was the environment that caused the paint to peel!

Update from Jan 11, 2016: The Dealership is NOT Preston Hood, it is GARY SMITH HONDA. Sorry about that.

First photo was taken 10/2012 and involved paint peeling on hood. It took 4 months for them to do anything and I even had to pay partial cost of paint job. Now in July 2015 paint is peeling off the roof. Contacted dealer several times, and spoke to Cody Champion at dealer on 7/13/2015. Since then I have sent several emails and several phone calls, and he has yet to have the decency to speak to me. Very upset with the poor quality of Honda auto.

I have a 2009 Honda Odyssey van that has paint peeling in sheets off of the roof and hood. It is also peeling on the sides of the hood and around the door handles. It's awful! I have already taken this van in for so many other issues I don't think I can handle trying to get the dealership to repaint it. I know there was a class action lawsuit for earlier makes and models about this issue but can't find one including 2009's.
