My sister was driving (she owns van)...she had slowed down and was braking to right turn into parking space when van suddenly lurched forward, engine accelerated rapidly and although brake was applied, van continued to go forward until it hit a guard rail and side of building. Air bags deployed. Engine kept running at excessive speed, finally quit when ignition was turned off. Reported incident to police but they did not come because vehicle was on private property. Reported to insurance company. They sent tow truck. Vehicle was removed to collision lot of local Honda dealer. Insurance adjuster totaled vehicle. Found out later that Honda Odyssey's seem to have many of these incidents involving many model years. Injuries involved minor type burn on my sister's hand from air bag and I have soft tissue issues with rib cage. I am hoping to work with my insurance company in getting this issue more attention from Honda. One of these days there will be a death(s) because of this problem.
I noticed that the car was accelerating without my help. I was in complete control of the vehicle and it did not advance to put me in danger. But this situation continues to happen. I called Honda in my area and asked about the problem - they never got back to me. typical...................
Because this is intermittent, dealer can't find solution - drives fine 90% of the time but really scary when this happens since the car is out of control.
