The tailgate struts on my 2008 Honda Odyssey failed on 3/7/2016. When I open the liftgate on our van now, the struts that cause the liftgate to open easily are not working. This means you have to raise the tailgate manually and use a stick of some kind to keep the tailgate open. I found that a recall was issued around 2012 for liftgate problems on the 2008-2009 Honda Odyssey. The information I found said that the NHTSA campaign for this recall has the id: #12V062000 my Odyssey's VIN number does not appear to be included in that recall. Since I am affected by the same problem identified in the recall, I'd like for the recall to be expanded to include my VIN so we can be reimbursed for the repair. Power-tailgate struts have failed and trunk will not remain open. When my wife lifted the trunk it nearly fell on her and hit her head. This same exact issue has been identified in the 2008 Honda Odyssey touring models and a recall was issued. I believe the recall should extend to non-touring model as well (I have a LX 5 speed automatic trim level). I called Honda and they said that my VIN was not included in the recall, but I believe that it should be. In order to repair it, I will have to pay out of pocket.

The tailgate struts failed when my wife opened the tailgate causing a bruise on her head. Skin was not broken. The struts failed slightly on the 27th and lowered the tail gate a few inches. A few days later, they failed completely and tail gate is hard to open and must be held open or it falls rapidly. The struts need to be replaced. I will take it to the dealer to see if they will honor recall, even if VIN is not included on recall list or perhaps the part failure may also be covered under extended warranty.
