Started as a ticking noise a week prior, thought it may be the valves needing adjusting. Took a 300 mile trip and by the grace of God the vehicle failed right as we pulled up to our destination. This is a problem that the PCM should have detected as a weak or failing spark event (grounding). The arcing of the spark plug burnt the threads away. Now I need to get a new cylinder head installed to the tune of over $3,000.00 on a 2006 minivan that won't event get half back if I was to sell it the next day. Sad.
2006 Honda Odyssey with the 3.5L V6. Van has 165,000 miles and drove good. We were driving on the highway and all of a sudden there was a very loud. bang and I saw something fleeing down the road behind me. The engine became extremely loud almost causing me to lose control, I pulled over and shut it off, had it towed to a shop and they showed me where the cylinder head had broken clean off where the spark plug goes! Now I need a new cylinder head. Repair estimate is over 2k! I can't believe this happened to a Honda. I am shocked as well as the auto technicians!
