I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey and was driving to work, when I noticed smoke coming from under the hood. At first I thought the van was overheating but noticed the temp gauge was normal. Pulled over and opened the hood and the engine compartment was on fire. Called 911 and the fire department put out the fire. Contacted amercian Honda regarding the situation, and let me know that they would look into it.

Ref: 2005 Honda Odyssey engineer computer malfunction ' dangerous safety issue 2005 Odyssey touring model 1) let's start with what has happened to this Odyssey engine computer, or engine warning light last three years, two problems so far: A little over one year after I got this Odyssey, the yellow engine light started to come on. Took it to diamond bar Honda, they just reset the light without doing any checking; they told me this is Honda imposed standard procedure. Another few months went by, the engine light came on again. This time Honda care finally authorized the part replacement. 2) I thought things were ok not until the 'engine' light came on again, this time with big amber message stating 'inspect vsa' also. I stopped and restarted the engine, the light went off. On the second day, while I was driving at I-60, suddenly with no warning, both 'engine' and 'inspect vsa' came on again. And the car started to slow down considerably on the freeway. The vehicle slowed down to less than 20 mph with did not response to the gas pedal. I had to immediately pull my car to right side shoulder, almost rear ended by a semi-truck. This is absolutely down right dangerous and un-safe. I could have been seriously injured by this from driving at 65 mph and slowed to <20 mph in few seconds!! however, this is no longer 'Honda dragging your feet and save cost issue'. this is a serious product safety issue now! with this letter, I am officially putting Honda on notice on this 'seriously safety problem / defect'. I told my wife and will inform my attorney that in case I get rear ended on the road, this engine stalling will be the cause of the accident.

Electrical problem with my Honda Odyssey 2005 I brought it brand new and every time I sit in the vehicle it will not start. The dealer told me battery drained out. It already happen 4 times and the main switch of the light is already off they keep on saying that we left the light on. For goodness sake!!! we have 3 cars and this van only has the problem. We think something is wrong in the system that's draining the battery I told them several times but they won't believe me. I am worried about my warranty what if it expires then suddenly they will find out what's wrong with the vehicle and payment will come out of my pocket. Please advise thanks.

While making a hard right hand turn, van had a complete loss of power. Engine, lights, power steering and power brakes all died instantly. Managed to stop the van without hitting anything, but if someone had been coming the other way, no way an accident wouldn't have happened. Put car in park, turned key and it restarted and drove fine. Called dealer and took it in for them to look at it. There were approx. 10 error codes recorded. They kept van for four hours, ended up saying it was a dead battery and they replaced it and sent me on my way. They said paperwork has to be sent through warranty and will send me a copy when it comes back. Explanation doesn't fit situation.

Experiencing a very loud buzzing noise in the speakers. Problems started back in July of 05' @7600 miles. Noise would be intermittent - dealer replaced 1st set of rear speakers. 4 days later vehicle battery ran down while sitting in the garage. I charged battery and drove vehicle to a drive-in movie where battery ran down again, with-in the course of a two hour movie. Took vehicle back to dealership the next day - tested system and no problems found. 10 days later @8500 miles vehicle would not stop buzzing - the buzzing noise was so loud, that the kids were complaining that it was hurting their ears. --only way to stop noise was to speed vehicle up or let off the gas pedal. -- service department replaced both rear speakers again and the active noise control unit. Appeared that problem was fixed until it started again in Dec. Of 05' at 12500- shop replaced lt. Front speaker. It has made the loud buzzing noise again - but unable to duplicate while in shop.

My 2005 Honda Odyssey has stalled twice while driving. 1st episode was Jan 2005(~1030mi). As I was turning right, went over a curb. Car suddenly stopped running. Everything in car went out as if someone pulled an electrical plug. I turned key to off & was able to immediately restart.brought car to fischer Honda, ypsilanti, mi.service dept said that they found nothing wrong.I thought they called tech support. I continued to drive car because they couldn't find a problem. 2nd incident occurred Sept 13,2005(~7665mi).as was turning left from turn lane, car stalled in on-coming traffic, causing a near-accident.put car in park, turned key to off, &restarted car immediately.brought car to howard cooper Honda service, ann arbor, mi next morning.I filed case # &complaint w/american Honda motor co. Cust. Service. Honda svc. Dealer called saying found nothing wrong&that I needed to pick up car.we argued that needed further exploration of this safety issue, not just for us but potentially other Odyssey owners. We were particularly concerned when our internet search found NHTSA recall id#05V132000.we mentioned this recall but svc dealer said our VIN didn't fall within recall range& that it definitely couldn't be our fuse box.we asked if they tested our fuse box directly.they said they couldn't. finally, Honda dealer provided rental car while they drove car for a week(~270 miles)checking for stall.they changed on board computers data capture to record for stall.they called Honda tech support who stated they had never heard of stall complaint.they said couldn't fix my car since they found nothing wrong.we've called amer. Honda motor co. Cust. Svc. Many times without avail. Despite saying they'd contact Honda dealer, they never coordinated a resolution. We don't feel they've considered the potentially deadly consequences of driving car that stalls suddenly while being driven. We're told to call immediately if stalls again. We're afraid to drive. The next stall could result in serious casualty.

I purchased a new 2005 Honda Odyssey ex-L in December 2004, and I have experienced multiple incidents in which the brakes make a very loud grinding noise with medium hard braking. The grinding has not resulted in any apparent loss of braking ability or loss of control however this is a concern to me since I drive with a 5 year old in my care. I took the Odyssey to the service center in may O5 for this issue and they replaced the brake pads and resurfaced the rotors. Again this month (July) I noticed the problem again, I took it in two days ago and Honda refuses to fix the problem saying that I have to wait until September to have the issue resolved. They tell us that they won't have the parts in until then. I feel that they are avoiding the fixing the problem as to avoid the lemon law since this is their second time fixing this problem. I have brought the vehicle in for several other issues before this such as broken cd player....slow draining of battery, and problems with dvd and vehicle interior. Overall I am very concererned when my car is having problems with the brakes and this company refuses to fix the problem.....I am scared to drive this vehicle but do not have the money for a rental until September.

Wireless headphones operate intermittently when on audio source, e.g., cd is playing on the front channels and the dvd is selected for the rear channels. Failure occurs approximately 30-90 mins after the split source is selected. While this may not seem like a major issue for a vehicle, we have a special needs child that uses the dvd to remain calm and, the system is extremely limited in its currently defective condition, preventing us from a number of activities. Honda acknowledges the issue, but has no resolve at present. They expect approximately 50% failure rate to this issue according to their techline.

This car hasn't worked since we first got it on the lot. All the problems have been electrical. First problem noted was the right passenger door not opening when the button was pressed. It would open about 1/4 inch and then start beeping. It then is stuck and the only way to open it is to manually pull the door open. Similar problem on the left side, but when it happens on the left passenger door, the whole electrical system freezes up - can't open or shut the door, can't lock/unlock doors. Must shut car down and re-start. Spare tire came loose and cause loud rattling in back left part of car. Six weeks after purchase, went on trip. Returned to airport & car was dead. Got a jump. Next day noticed that back-up beepers/sensors not working. At one point, a trouble light on the dash lit up for no reason & didn't go out for a few weeks. Just tried out the cruise control a few weeks ago - it doesn't work. This car is a lemon.
