Sliding doors do not latch completely. They close but a few seconds later open again with light showing they are open. Doors have come open while driving with children in back, even when they were supposed to be locked. This is a huge safety issue despite children being secured in a seatbelt.

4 year child in the back drivers side seat, not the third row. Vehicle is equiped with an automatic rear sliding door closure mechanism. The door closure system has safety mechanism that appeared to be fuctioning properly at the time of the incident. When automatic door was closing child put her left hand between the door and the frame as it closed. The door continued to close and completed the latching process with the child's hand crushed between the door and the frame. The door had to be opened to extract the childs hand. The child sustained serve crushing injuries to the entire hand, from the palm to the finger tips. The child was taken immeadiately to an pediatric orthopedic surgeon. The surgeon X-rayed the hand and determined that one of the bones on the middle finger had been broken. After the incident the automatic door safety mechanism appeared to be functioning normally.

- the contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The contact was experiencing steering problems related to recall #05V039000. While driving 50 mph the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch. While attempting to gain control of the steering the vehicle moved from the left to the right. The contact called the police, and was not given a police report. The mechanic replaced the tires, and stated that the failure was due to the tires. The contact advised the mechanic of the steering recall, and he denied that it was related. None of the air bags in the vehicle deployed at the time of the collision. Recall #05V344000 was related to the air bags: Frontal:sensor/control module. The drivers side door was difficult to close unless pressure was applied. The weather was not a factor. The current and failure mileage was 36,200.

The problem began last October there has been a problem with the vehicle door being loose from the track. The vehicle has been taken to dealer 5 times. The dealer just tightened the bolts. The problem has been reported to Honda. Upon investigation the owner found out that others have the same problem. There have been recalls 99V15800 and 99V159000. Honda denied any problems. Honda stated that there were not enough complaints to cause a recall. Sometimes the child has to hold the door so it wont come open. This has happened since the first day. The dealer reported to fix the problem, they were adjusting the striker.

2005 Honda Odyssey exl - 4500 miles. Left side passenger power sliding door does not close and latch completely. Indicator on dash board shows door is open. Door open buzzer went on when driving. Turned off power mechanism. Door slid ajar when driving under these circumstances and with children on board fortunately with seat belts on. Pushing did not help close and latch the door - the door closes but pops out in a couple of seconds and the lock does not work at all. Yet to visit dealer to resolve this serious issue.

2005 Honda Odyssey touring with 3000 miles. The left side passenger power sliding door opened completely while the car was in motion today 05/21/05. The door was closed and locked before this happened. The door open indicator on the mid did not go on before this happened. The door open indicator on the mid showed only when the door flew open. The power mechanism had been turned off. My eight year old son was sitting in the left side second row seat when this happened. He was wearing his seatbelt. No person or thing fell out of the car. When I began this trip the door open buzzer went on when the transmission was in drive but not when in park. The buzzer shut off when the power door mechanism was turned off even if the transmission was in drive. I checked all the doors and they looked closed, seated and locked. The door open indicator never showed either on the dashboard or on the mid until the door flew open. After this incident I could not get the left side door to close and latch manually. Using the power mechanism the door did not seem to close completely unless I helped it by pushing. But after a couple of seconds the door seemed to pop open a bit and it obviously was not latched. The lock did not hold at all. One month ago the open door buzzer was going on when the transmission was in drive even though the doors were closed. The buzzer shut off if I turned the power door mechanism off. This was an intermittent problem. I also had some problems closing the left side door manually. I took the car for service to the local Honda dealer (keyes woodland hills Honda in woodland hills California). They returned the car the same day and said the door sensors had to be adjusted and that nothing was wrong with the doors or the door mechanism. Things were okay for a few weeks.
