2004 Honda Odyssey. Consumer writes in regards to the driver side and passenger side airbag system recall notice issues. The consumer stated within a month of having the first recall work completed (replacement of the driver's side inflator), the SRS light illuminated. The consumer returned to the dealer where they determined the passenger side front air bag was no longer functioning. The consumer was informed the entire air bag system would not operate until the repair was completed. The dealer also stated the parts were on back order.

NHTSA recall number: 14V-351 mfr campaign id: JH0 recall date: 06/19/2014 recall status: Recall incomplete issue # 2 incorrect name on recall notices my name is [xxx]. Honda lists my name on the recall notice as [xxx]. I have called and notified of the problem in writing more than once. Honda obviously has problems with the customer database. I'm having trouble with Honda over my SRS unit. I was told in January (while I was getting an airbag recall installed) that my SRS unit was faulty and needed to be replaced for $1200. I waited for my tax return and now there's a brand new recall on the SRS unit but those parts won't be available for several months. But in the mean time... my SRS unit is faulty. They told me in January that in the event of a crash my airbags would not be deployed and my seatbelts wouldn't tighten or anything! so I took it to the dealership who offered me a rental until they had a chance to look into it (very nice) but now they are saying they cannot offer a rental until the part comes in, they want to run a diagnostic test on my dollar ($115 to be precise) because he told me even if the recalled part was installed my SRS light wouldn't turn off-- that it was 'most likely something else'. I am so disappointed that Honda wouldn't take my situation more seriously, this seems like a huge liability issue for them. I would expect them to at least replace my faulty SRS with another current model that's not faulty until the part comes in... but I have to pay for even the diagnostics test? I'm baffled.

Honda will not warranty failed front passenger side airbags. Due to 36,000/ three year warranty expiration. A federal mandate recall on front airbags was already executed on this vehicle. Why has Honda not been made to warranty all airbags systems associated with the front passenger and driver seats. Does it take serious injury or death to make the NHTSA regulate manufactures to stand behind the safety equipment in their vehicles for the life of the vehicle. I hope that my complaint along with other vehicle owner complaints about this safety issue will be addressed asap.

I contacted a Honda dealer (Honda of columbia, lexington, SC 29072) for my Odyssey van airbag recall on 10 Nov and filed the recall repair. I asked a service rep what I needed to do when the airbag were not safe. He told me that I needed to keep driving my van at my own risk while new airbags were on order! on 31 Dec, I went to the dealer and asked the status of my airbag recall fix status. They gave me the same answer that I had to drive my van at my own risk until the airbags would arrive, but did not know how long it took. This is absolutely not right! Honda car owner have to keep driving at their own risks when the safety problems are caused by the company? the company must offer an alternative car for affected customers until their cars are fixed. Waiting for 2 months or longer is not acceptable especially when the recall may cause a fatal result.

I have a complaint about the way Honda officials and the Honda dealership have been handing my requests to have my airbags replaced. My car has not been involved in an accident; however, in order to send this complaint to you I had to enter an accident date. I have been trying since March 2014 to get the dealer to replace the air bags in my 2004 Honda Odyssey. According to a Honda official at 1-800-999-1009 and the official Honda website, both my driver and front passenger airbags are affected to by recall notice. However, since March I have had several contacts with the dealership and continue to get a run around. They will not replace the bags until they prove, in diagnostic tests, to be defective. I will be charged $90 for each test they find negative. It was my understanding that all airbags from this region of the country and bearing my VIN, make and model were to be replaced free of charge. I have yet to receive a paper recall notice, because according to a Honda official on 9/15/14, the delay in mailing them out is due to the lack of sufficient available replacement airbags to handle the recall notice. I have left several voice mail messages with the dealership where I purchased my vehicle, but no one has returned any of my calls. Just what am I expected to do" how long must I wait to receive proper notice from Honda officials? am I expected to pay for all of the diagnostic tests? if an airbag passes a diagnostic test there's no guarantee that it will not deploy at a future time with the same disastrous outcome we've been hearing about in the news. Is anyone advocating on our behalf"

During the summer of 2012 I was parked facing the sun. When I started my car the SRS (air bag warning) light illuminated. As I drove the 3 miles to my home the light stayed on. Within the next two weeks the same thing happened about two times. Honda service could not find any code in the car's computer indicating that there was a problem. Again during the summer of 2014 the same thing happened once. I think this SRS light illumination may be an indication that the air bag is defective. I live in and bought the car in Virginia. The recent takata air bag recall is a regional recall and does not include Virginia. However, one of the fatalities caused by this defect occurred in Virginia in December. So hot and humid weather is not the only cause of the air bag defect. I believe my Honda Odyssey's air bags are defective and should be recalled.
