The contact owns a 2004 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while parked on a slight incline, the vehicle rolled backward and crashed into a tree and three other vehicles. The dealer was contacted and advised the contact, the vehicle was not designed in a manner in which the key could be removed from the ignition without the vehicle being successfully shifted into park. The dealer also advised that a component on the vehicle must have failed in order for the failure to have occurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who inspected the vehicle and advised that the failure was caused by the vehicle being left in gear.the current and the failure mileages were 102,000. The contact owns a 2004 Honda Odyssey. The contact noticed that the ignition switch failed; however, he was able to remove the key without shifting into park. The contact called the local dealer who stated that there were no related recalls. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. The contact called the manufacturer who referred him to NHTSA. The current mileage was approximately 85,000. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.
