The fuel filler neck has developed a leak. As a result, the check engine light stayed on, and the vehicle was unable to pass inspection. A leak was coming from somewhere in the fuel filler pipe. The fuel filler pipe was replaced again along with the fuel pump seal and nut.
There was strong gasoline odor on the outside and inside of the cabin. Dealership noticed fuel tank filler neck had a hole. Vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions and proper testing wasn't done. The cause was discovered on the fourth visit. The smell had been present six months or more.
My wife stopped to get some gas. The van was stopped with the engine off. The went to turn the fuel cap and just turned it when flames shoot out of the filler neck about 12-18 long. My wife said it was like a blow torch. My daughter was in the van also who is hanicapped and had to crawl away from the van because my wife thought the van might blow up. I contacted Honda dealership who never heard anything like that. The van was towed to the dealership to have it checked out.
When filling fuel tank consumer's daughter was able to unlock the driver's side power sliding door. Door opened quickly and jammed over the fuel filler door, damaging fuel filler door, also caused fuel to spill on ground. Safety and environmental problem. I would think that door would be totally inoperable under these conditions.
Engine check light stayed on 6 times. 6 times to dealer. Corrected by replacement of gasoline filler neck. Honda field engineer called in 3/22/00 to check repairs.
