Check engine light on with error code P0740 indicating transmission failure on 99 Honda Odyssey. According to the Honda service person, Honda won't pay any repair or replace cost because it's out of my extended warranty even though there were numerous similar complaints reported on 1999 - 2002 Odyssey transmission problems including a recall and class action lawsuit in California against Honda for 1999-2001 Accord transmissions that showed the same malfunction code. I'm the original owner of the car with extended warranty. I have the car serviced regularly at the dealer. The car was at very low mileage without showing the transmission problem when the extended warranty expired at 2006. I believe Honda should perform a "goodwill" repair on my transmission and pickup most cost instead for me to pickup the $5000 expense for the parts and labor or the option of getting a new car..
Torque converter/ transmission failed with 104,800 miles on 12-year old vehicle despite being driven primarily on the highway and being meticulously maintained. Honda's extended warranty (offered as settlement of a class action suit) ended after 7 years despite low mileage.
When I try to advance suddenly, accelerate or some times it's like I'm in neutral; and this is every time I used the van, my concern is that I can crash or someone could hit me, I tryed to repair it last year the same problem with the transmission but in less than a year I have the same problem again.
Honda Odyssey 1999 model auto transmission issue. In my particular case, it occurred pulling out of a parking lot into a busy street and the Odyssey struggled to get up to a safe speed slipping it's way into various gears. I never thought about it but honestly this could have killed me and my family as we were attempting to pull out into a busy street. Thank goodness I was not rear ended or worse and was able to pull the van into the most immediate parking lot. When I searched in the internet there are lot many complains on Honda Odyssey about the similar issues and Honda has not done anything to address this issue so far. Would like to request to consider this case and make necessary actions at the earliest before we loose more lives due to this issue.
I have a 1999 Honda Odyssey ex with 190,000 miles. I have maintained this car very well. To my surprise, I just found out on 03/05/2011 that the transmission failed and needs to be replaced for about $1,500 (used) or $3,000 new. The engine lights had been on for a while but Honda did not acknowlegde nothing wrong. Too many Honda Odyssey's owners had the same problem. This is no doubt a defect with these transmissions. I request a full investigation on this matter.
The contact owns a 1999 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the transmission began slipping and all of the instrument panel lights illuminated while stopped at a traffic stop. Then, all of the warning lights except for the check engine and pcs warning lights stopped illuminating. The contact stated that there was a recall for the automatic transmission (recall information not available) but the manufacturer advised that the recall was only being offered to those vehicle owners who had less than 100,000 miles or whose vehicle was less than seven years old. No further assistance was offered. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired for the failure. The current mileage was 90,036. The failure mileage was 90,002.
Transmission recalled in 05 for defect, was replaced at that time with local dealer. July 29, 2008 transmission failed while traveling far from home and was replaced at my cost of $5,000 as I went 6 months past warranty. Transmission is failing again and has to be replaced at my cost because I put 4,000 miles over the 36,000 mile warranty. Contacted american Honda for help and they will not assist me. The transmission has never been fixed for the original defect with the recall in 05, if it had, I certainly would not be told by Honda that it needs it's 4th transmission. (3 in 5 years time).
The contact owns a 1999 Honda Odyssey. While driving approximately 35 mph up a hill, the contact noticed that the vehicle would not accelerate. The contact was able to coast to a stop where the vehicle was parked. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The contact stated that the transmission had previously been replaced by an authorized dealer. The current and failure mileages were approximately 114,000.
The contact owns a 1999 Honda Odyssey. While driving approximately 30 mph he applied light pressure to the brake pedal and various unknown lights began to illuminate on the dashboard. The vehicle stalled and when the vehicle was restarted it began operating normally but the check engine light illuminated on the dashboard. The failure recurred approximately one week later and the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where he was informed that the failure was within the transmission. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where he was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 114,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The contact owns a 1999 Honda Odyssey. The contact was accelerating from a complete stop when the vehicle abnormally surged backward. The contact shut off the engine and then restarted. When attempting to accelerate a second time, the vehicle moved forward approximately five feet before independently stopping. The vehicle was towed to a local automotive repair facility. The contact was informed that the transmission was defective and would need to be replaced. The contact stated that the transmission was replaced less than one year prior to the recent failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The VIN was not available. The current and failure mileage was unknown.
I have 1999 Honda Odyssey who wont pass the emissions test. I am second owner to this vehicle and got it with 62,000 miles on it and only have used it for only over 33,000 miles only. Went to a mechanic and said that the transmission is the problem. Its no reason for only 93,000 miles on the vehicle to be going bad. Made a call to american Honda and got denied for repairs because they said its over the warranty. I don't understand I knew that they knew that their vehicle has defect and they should solve the problem. Who would buy a car less than a 100,000 mile then the transmission will go bad? I at least expect 150K or 200K before it goes down. Really disappointed on Honda automobiles. Need some help. Very costly repair. Needs Honda to repair this free of charge.
My husband and I purchased a used 1999 Honda Odyssey with low mileage for our family vehicle. We have had the van for approximately 2.5 years. It currently has less than 100,000 miles, and the check engine light came on indicating there is a malfunction with the transmission. After researching this issue, I came across the Honda customer service website in which a recall was listed for this exact problem (but ironically not the same year). After calling jessica in the customer service dept. And requesting a goodwill extension on the warranty (since the vehicle has less than 100,000 miles) I was told there was nothing they could do for us (since the time had expired) even though through their own website they clearly have a defect with the transmission during this time parameter.
I purchased a 1999 Honda Odyssey ex with about 20,000 miles on it from a Honda dealer as certified pre-owned in 2001. Transmission had already been replaced once. I replaced it under Honda certified warranty in 2005. Vehicle turned 149,000 miles and transmission (confirmed by santa monica Honda) must again be replaced meaning car needs a 4th transmission. Honda will not extend any financial assistance to me nor will they release factory transmission to me saying they are holding factory parts for "good will" replacements! this has been a chronic problem with this vehicle. How can they do this?
1999 Honda Odyssey - driving on the express way with the family in the car when the dash light and tcs light come on. Van would not shift or keep speed. We were almost rear ended because of the decreasing speed. This will be the fourth transmission for this van. Honda did cover the first three but has adamantly stated they will not cover this one. Clearly there is an issue with the transmission on this model. Because this is a mini van in which families are driving, Honda puts you and yours at risk with a repetitive issue.
I own a 1999 Honda Odyssey. The second transmission has failed. The first replaced due to class action. Is NHTSA ever going to look into this and force a recall and get our vans fixed? how many people have to be left stranded on busy highways with families.
Transmission needed to be replaced at just over 56,000. Did not have extended warranty coverage protection so was entirely absorbed by me. Incident failure happened while on highway and safely made it back home with prayers and cautious driving techniques like a bad theme park ride. Cost was over $2,000. Replaced in Feb. 2010.
1999 Honda Odyssey, 153K mi. Transmission replaced July 2007 at 100K under Honda's extended warranty that was driven by class action lawsuit. On 3/15, transmission failed again with no warning at highway speed (approx 65 mph), while in mountainous pass (marker 77) on I-8 East of san diego. Driver (son) avoided accident & other traffic, but could have been disastrous for him & 5 passengers. Was able to coast to side of road. American Honda refuses to provide assistance. Transmission serviced per prescribed maint schedule (fluid drain & fill at 30K mi interval). 50K miles seems a bit low for the supposedly fixed Odyssey transmission problem commonly seen in 1999-2001 models.
Honda Odyssey 1999. Current mileage : 96501 owner : tran ngoc 714-399-5564 problem: Transmission problem caused sudden stop while driving in freeware. America Honda head quarter refused honor their extend service warranty 99 months or 109,000 mile for transmission.
My 99 Honda Odyssey has been babied and taken care of by myself. I have never had a serious problem with the vehicle. I remember getting a letter from Honda saying the trans. Had an extended warranty of 10 years 100,000. I always had the trans. Serviced at my mechanic with a T tech service every 25,000 miles.at 71,000 miles I noticed the trans. Started to slam into the gear when it decelerated. I called a Honda dealer and made an appointment to have the trans. Looked at. I was told the trans. Was not going into 1st gear but directly into 2nd gear. It shifted fine when I took it their. I told them it was slamming into gear when it downshifted. Anyway I was informed the warranty had expired. I call american Honda. I was informed again that the warranty had expired in 2006 at 109,000 miles.Honda did extend the warranty but not 10 years. I received a factory warranty of 3 years 36,000 mile warranty and they extend the warranty to 7 years 109,000. That extended warranty included the first 3 years.so they really extended the warranty 4 years. They told my information and would determine if Honda would pay for the cost of a new trans.. I was told it takes 2 days to make their decision. I was called the next day by gloria of american Honda and she took the information again and then was asked what I wanted Honda to do. When I told her to pay for the repair of my trans.. she informed me that was not going to happen. I then said then you have made your decision. She told she has not made no decision yet. I informed her their were over 2000 complaints at NHTSA about the Honda Odyssey 99 to 2002 transmission. And extending the warranty and replacing trans. With remaufactured ones with the same problem and failing again later leaving the $4000 repair to the owner. Honda redesigned the trans. In 2003 and they have no failures. It has been 1 week and I still have not heard from american Honda on their decision. I am joining a class action suit to get this car recalled.
