This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I am not sure what part of the system is failing. While driving on the high the car just stopped no warning just stopped it went from 55- 60 miles an hour on 287 all the way to 20 and then stopped. This was all random. Then it was taken to a independent service who ran the codes and none of them stayed so i drove the car again and all that happened before happened once again. The independent service told me its the transmission and they are not sure why its happening he noted that these hondas have transmission issue
I have had an issue with my 2019 Honda HRV Sport. Black display on the odometer/fuel/oil gauge at start up, then went to gibberish then to display as normal once the car warmed up. Sometimes it would flash or not come back at all. I live in the Northeast and it started when temperatures started getting cooler. This is the first year. Dealer (Keeler Honda) says they have heard of this and wanted to charge me $1800 to replace it. They said they-??ve heard of it happening in the HRV and the Fit. It-??s dangerous when you can-??t see how much gas you have. Also wondering if accurate mileage is being calculated.
The instrument cluster is glitching and it does not display the amount of fuel in the tank, the mileage/odometer reading that is necessary to know when we are low on fuel. The digital display is blank and people that have same issue state that the soldering done on the cluster was manufactured improperly causing the display to short out.
8/9/24 was the first time we noticed the gas/mileage gauge disappearing. It would do this almost everyday for no apparent reason leaving the driver (usually my teenage daughters) not knowing how much gas they had left. This particular disappearance happens on a regular basis which is quite concerning not knowing how much gas you have left. Also on 8/23/24 a light came on that said check fuel cap along with the yellow check engine light, yellow parking brake and flashing park symbol. These lights stayed on minus the fuel cap light for about 3 weeks. They have disappeared with now with only the issue of the disappearing fuel/mileage gauge remaining an off/on issue (but as stated above usually on a daily basis.) We replaced the fuels cap in case there was an issue and also took it to a Honda dealership on 9/27/24. They didn't check diagnostics as the other icons had turned off, but the gas gauge was still missing. They said it wouldn't show codes since the icons were missing. I also called the Honda corporation regarding this safety issue as there are multiple reports of this happening to others on several Honda forums with Honda HRV ranging from 2016-2020. It usually happens in this manner with the fuel gauge disappearing first then other icons coming off/on.
Odometer/fuel gauge goes black and shows nothing on it. Has caused risk because I can not see how much gas I have and have to wait till the gas light turns on. It does it when it gets below 70 degrees Fahrenheit. I am unable to see my mileage, the temperature, level of gas I have, the time, etc. It will go back on when it is warmer out but will not when it gets cooler.
My car is flood. I was told that a filter became clogged and was causing flooding in the car. Honda said that they cannot cover the repairs dispute me paying for full services. This issue wasn-??t caused by any external factors and they agreed with. I have seen that many other ppl have complained about the same thing
Right directional/turn signal gets stuck on. Returning it to the neutral/central position does not turn the signal off. The only thing that will turn the turn signal off is to power off the vehicle or pull back on the directional lever which engages the high beams. The issue is intermittent.
I was parallel parking and when I put the car in reverse and barely touched the gas it suddenly accelerated into the car behind me. It was so fast it shot backwards like a rock into the car parked behind me. This was not driver error. It is now with an independent mechanic so I do not know at this point if they can reproduce the incident. I did not take it to Honda as I wanted an independent an unbiased report on the car. No warning lights, etc. before hand. The car behind me had somebody sitting in it and he hurt his hand. BUT if there had not been a car parked behind me I would have shot out backwards into a very busy street. Or had somebody been walking behind the car the would have been killed. The body damage to both cars shows that the speed had to be high at impact, and given the small space between cars when one is parallel parking I would have had to put the "pedal to the metal" to cause the kind of damage that was sustained.
Vehicle stalls on the highway during longer drive times up to 3 hours. Gas pedal stops working and all dashboard warning lights illuminate. Engine will not restart for several hours but after being towed and some sort of rest period restarts with no issues. Same problem happened on 3 separate occasions. Dealer was unable to recreate or diagnose any issues
Car would not turn off. Says vehicles remote keyless start system problem. Won't shut off vehicle motor. Tried for over 10 minutes to turn off vehicle. Had to risk injury by removing battery terminal cable. It's been 2x it has happen. Honda sounds like recalled or extended warranty for 2016-2018 but not 2019.
Failure of my Odometer/fuel gauge/ outdoor temp. This dial seems to go blank/black screen! This seems to happen in colder & wet weather. This could be a real SAFETY issue if my car ran out of gas on a 4 lane highway due to not being able to see fuel gauge! Also NOT being able to track mileage for oil changes or mileage for replacing tires! I am willing for NTSB or Honda to inspect my car!
The speedometer doesn't work in the cold which has happened more than once. This data on the cluster gives data for fuel (miles) amount of fuel in the tank, actual miles driven, percentage of oil-?? It needs to be addressed as a recall since too many others with the same make and model have this issue-??
- My back windshield spontaneously shattered. - Yes, my safety and the safety of my passenger was put at risk. We were driving on the freeway when the glass spontaneously shattered. IF I had a child in the backseat of the car, they would have been covered in shards of glass. -The problem has been confirmed by the dealer AND by Honda themselves. They issued a Priority/Action notice in May 2023 addressing spontaneously exploding back windshields in 2023 Honda HRV's (my model). There has even been one other person report the SAME issue at my Honda dealership. Honda is not agreeing to repair my back windshield, even though they publicly acknowledged the issue. - There were no prior warnings before the event happened.
I started losing my air conditioning on a trip for vacation (7/16). When I got back, I made an appointment for diagnostics. My car at this point is just barely out of warranty. The diagnostics on 8/3 came back that their was a leak in the condenser coil. After doing some searching I saw that there is a warranty extension for other Honda models that fall in the same year my car is in. I called Honda Corp the same day and specifically asked was the condensor coil that is in my car manufactured in the same plant the defective coils were made in and the reply was yes. The dealer filed a good will claim for me and they covered 50% of the coil replacement which i took in for repair on 8/24. Due to the leak, the compressor is bad and they want more money (enough for a down payment) to replace that. The gentleman at the dealer told me this is a known issue but the HRV isn't covered under the extended warranty/recall that was placed for other models. Due to the current problem, I have been told if the compressor locks up, it could cause a belt failure in my car.
My car computer screen goes black from time to time and therefore the backup camera and radio, etc. won't work. This started the first year I bought it new. The dealer has done two software updates but it still does it from time to time. The last time I took it in for this problem and the warranty had expired, they wanted me to pay either $79 or $179 for a diagnostic so I told them I wasn't doing that. I saw on TV where there is a problem like this for Honda Pilot, Honda Odyssey and Honda Passport. I believe Honda HR-V should be added to this list.
the panel lights come on out of nowhere, showing the problem is a coil. The coil and the torques are changed but the problem continues. As soon as the lights come on, the car, HR-V, starts making a mistake that doesn't let me drive well. It has already been taken to the dealer on several occasions but they cannot solve the problem.
UNKOWN. I was driving up an icy mountainous road at night in an unfamiliar area and the vehicle made a loud crunching noise. The vehicle did not respond to the accelerator when flooring the pedal. A number of lights appeared, some were blinking and others remained lit. Thankfully the vehicle eventually began to operate as normal. However, this event has increased in frequency, duration, and severity. Typically the warning lights would turn off within a few days after each even the lights remain on for a longer period of time and the event occurs more frequently. The noise and sensations this event creates occur more frequently during an interval and sound more serious and damaging. The car continues to react in uncertain ways, sometimes refusing to accelerate, sometimes slowing down more rapidly without breaking. The photos and videos are not from the original event date. They are however documentation of the times these lights have turned on due to an event.
While driving on the interstate all dashboard lights come on including parking brake. After turning engine off, the lights go off and come back on after 5 minutes of driving again. If parking brake is engaged when parked, it is not releasable. Changed battery with Honda battery, issue resolved. 6 months later driving down the interstate and the same thing happens again but this time the door ajar lights and sounds are on and the overhead light is coming on and off while I am driving at night. This is a known issue amongst 2019 hrv's. dealership does not know what will resolve the issue. They provide coded that says it will be the start of the resolution and code can be ran after these items are fixed to fix the remaining items that might be causing it. $2600 for a not even 3 year old car to be fixed for a known issue"??" hrv forums have many people that have spent thousands and the issue is still not resolved. Lights coming on in the car on the road at night are a safety issue. This definitely needs to be addressed. No issues with the vehicle prior and no warning that anything is wrong.
I have a 2019 Hr-V ex-L that I bought new in October of 2019. On 12/9/2020, on my way to work, I was driving about 55 mph on a highway and I heard a loud pop. I opened my sunroof visor to find that my sunroof had shattered. I closed the visor immediately, so that glass would not fall on me. I called the dealership to let them know that I was bringing it in, and to ask if this would be covered under warranty, and was told no. When I arrived at the dealership, the technician said that it looked like a rock had hit it, and that is considered a road hazard, therefore it would not be covered under warranty. I let them know that there were no cars around me at the time of the incident, so I did not think it was possible for a rock to hit it. Additionally, there was no evidence of a rock strike, and the glass had actually broken in a way that the edges were raised up from the vehicle and not down, which I would assume would be conducive of a rock strike. They then told me that sunroofs don't just shatter on their own, so something had to have hit it, and that I should claim it on my insurance. My car was repaired, I picked it up, and paid the $1,053.45 bill for the sunroof replacement out of pocket. I have since done quite a bit of research, and it seems like there is in fact, a significant precedent for sunroofs spontaneously shattering. I found multiple instances, several recalls from other manufacturers, as well as multiple class action lawsuits being filed for this exact situation. Additionally, I found multiple articles and quotes from glass professionals, as well as engineers, stating that it is physically impossible for a rock that has been kicked up from another vehicle to achieve enough velocity to shatter tempered glass on a horizontal plane. I am in contact with the general manager of the dealership, hoping they reimburse me, but no luck so far.
