This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The car failed inspection due to rust which had formed at the attachment points where the body is bolted to the chassis. The importance of this location made this rust a severe safety risk. The problem existed on both left and right sides of the vehicle. The fact that water was channeled to these locations with no opportunity for drainage or rust protection is a clear design flaw. The vehicle had only 46,000 miles. Every repair shop I took the car to said "such a young vehicle should not be rusting like this". They all suggested that Honda should be responsible to fix this because the car was poorly designed.
The paint on the roof of my Honda HR-V is chipping and peeling. The problem appeared suddenly and has continued to spread. The rest of the vehicle-??s paint remains intact, so this seems to be a defect in the roof paint or clear coat. While it does not trigger warning lights, the exposed areas put the vehicle at risk of rust and corrosion, which may affect safety and durability over time. The damage is visible and the roof is available for inspection upon request.
2019 HONDA HRV paint began to come off the car at 3 years old. Now the car is 5 years old and the area of concern is growing. The paint is pealing off down to the base of the car structure. This is a safety issue because when it begins to rust, the car parts will fall off. The area around with windshield is pealing decreasing the structural soundness of the car. When it rusts the windshield will not be held in place. Honda USA: Anthony at 800-999-1009. EX: 88024 was contacted and reported that even thought this same make and model car was recalled in 2016-2018 they will not fix the defect they knowingly manufactured. I have had the car inspected by Fisher Honda Colission Center in Boulder, Colorado. They said it is the same paint issue they saw on the cars in 2016-2018. Where Honda did recall the vehicles.
I am writing to request your assistance regarding a paint peeling issue that has developed on my 2019 Honda HR-V (currently at 50,320 miles). Recently, I noticed significant paint peeling at the top of the hood -?" in the exact same area previously identified in the 2016-?"2018 HR-V models covered under Honda-??s paint warranty extension. When I contacted Honda Cares, I was informed that my VIN is not included in that warranty extension. This is very disappointing because I made a conscious effort to protect my vehicle by purchasing the clear coat warranty at the time of sale, believing it would cover or help prevent defects like this. Unfortunately, I was told that this issue is also not covered under that protection. This situation is particularly difficult for me, as I just finished paying off my car last month and am preparing to retire this year. My plan was for this HR-V to be my retirement vehicle, and facing an unexpected repair so soon is a financial hardship I did not anticipate. Furthermore, I am aware of the lawsuit filed with the NHTSA concerning paint defects on Honda vehicles. Given that my paint is peeling in the same area identified in that investigation and covered under the prior warranty extension, I respectfully request that Honda extend that same paint warranty coverage to my vehicle as a gesture of goodwill and fairness. I chose Honda for its reputation for reliability and quality, and until now, I have been very pleased with my HR-V. I hope you will consider my circumstances and the documented history of this paint defect, and help me resolve this issue so I can continue to enjoy my vehicle into retirement. Thank you very much for your time and understanding. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Issues: Sunroof leaks heavily: during the rain and in car washes, into the backseat, which is ruined now from the constant leaking this past winter 2022-23 *Sunroof replaced 3/2023 Continues to leak heavily Weather Strips: Doors lacking weather strips, or the weather strips are so loose and loosely connected, it serves very little purpose, i.e., the seal attaches loosely to widely spread intermittent hooks, these are not attached securely and leak significantly. Brought to Honda: Never repaired Steering: Severe instability when both turning and accelleration!! Very dangerous when making a left hand turn from a stopped position!! This happens daily! Body Parts: Cheaply made, put together incorrectly by the manufacturer Honda in Mexico, e.g., Honda is completely aware of the plethora of body defects, including the sunroof. According to Honda Service Manager Ukiah CA. Brake System: Very poor, I would caution the need to slam on the brakes as they take much to long to engage.

My incident occurred in January 2020, within 2 weeks of purchase. The car was brand new. I was driving in my parking garage and turning into my parking spot. As I was making the turn to the right, I hit the brakes to slow down. Instead of reducing speed, the car accelerated and hit a cement pole next to my parking spot. The car shut down immediately, but the air bags did not go off. The front end was completely damaged and required extensive repair on the front bumper and grill, front lamps, radiator, and cooling,
