I purchased my HRV 7 months ago thinking I had made a good decision on a reliable vehicle that would have few issues. At the time it never crossed my mind that I would be dealing with a paint or rust problem for a 3 year old vehicle. I never noticed the bubbling on the rear panel until I washed my car yesterday. My warranty has barely expired and I am stuck with a loan to pay on a vehicle will be a rusted mess if I don't pay to fix it. How sad is this. Never Ever will I purchase another Honda nor my family or friends once they know about their paint problems. Sickening, just sickening.

I bought my 2016 HRV brand new mid 2015. I was so happy and proud to be one of the first HRV owners in my area.

Fast forward to 4 years and about 36K miles later: I'm washing my car and to my surprise the paint on the roof just peels off in huge pieces!!! I'm so baffled I don't even know what to say or think. I always thought very highly of Honda, this is my 3 Honda car, but after seeing this I'm very disappointed. Especially after reading that other people encounter the same exact problem ... it's obviously a defect!

I'm planning to take the car to the dealer today to file a complaint. I just hope Honda will do the right thing and fix the problem without trying to make me pay for their obvious short-coming ... I will update this post later once I see what the dealer says/does.

I just bought a 2016 Honda HRV and the paint is seriously peeling off.

I just had a car painter guy come by today to give me an estimate to fix a sizable 2" x 2" paint chip on the roof. He said "look Id love to take your $ and hate to drive out here for nothing, but this is a Honda defect and they really should fix it since the car is barely 3 years old".

He also pointed to other areas where chipping was starting and would get worse.

I said are you sure its not wear and tear or something else? he said no way. this is a defective paint job.

Anyone else having the same issue?

I'm guessing there will be a class action lawsuit re the paints on the HRV but because they just came out in 2016 there aren't enough people yet, but Ill be first in line to join! I hope Honda will do the right thing and offer to fix this on their own given they know its an issue especially on white cars.

I thought I would wait until I needed my next service to have the dealership look at the paint problem since I am under the 3 yr /36,000 mile warranty. The Honda dealer had the body shop look at the paint and told me the issue is bird droppings. There is nothing wrong with the clear coat or paint, that in Florida the bird droppings do damage to all of the cars. That is Bull S***! I have lived in Florida for 16 years and have had many family cars and trucks, that have never had an issue with the paint.

My brand NEW 2016 Honda HR-V is RED with 16,000 miles on it, bought in August 2016, has the spots on the hood look like rust worms under the clear coat.

This is a FACTORY DEFECT that the Honda Dealer told me is bird droppings.

I was told to call HONDA USA, but they probably won't do anything about it, bird droppings you know.

This is way to extended to type in a small paragraph. We actually went through lemon law arbitration, but my daughter didn't have the estimates. Their own people have stated that the paint had a problem and one stated that we were the first and then the next stated that they have painted several. They also made a mistake with the vehicle thinking it was another they had problems with. I am not sure if this HRV is just a really bad paint job, or if all of them have been having problems. The way it was explained to us is that it was under the clearcoat or something. There are small places like sand or something under it that break off and cause tiny rust spots ALL over it. They put us off for months, and now are doing it again. Now they say they will trade her out but it will cost several thousand. We bought a new vehicle. Why should be end up paying another $4000 when it was only a month old when it was noticed. I have more to add, but tired for the day.
