Driving in the mountains for an errand we turned on the heater and saw before our eyes the windshield crack where the warm air hits the window. A trapezoidal shape extending across the lower half of my fit now sits in my lower windshield. Hoping I can save enough money to get this repaired before the glass falls off and causes damage or injury to us. Seeing that other owners have the same issue, this is concerning and would be an issue Honda should look into on the composition of their windshields and installment.

AS I left my house I immediately turned on air full blast as it was very humid. After driving a few blocks, a noise of cracking startled me. I looked down and it was a crack in the lower center of my windshield moving up toward the center. I had it fixed at my own expense as I did not know this was a problem others had experienced. Now that I know, I plan to call Honda but it probably wont do any good. I am fed up!!

Friend of a friend had similar year make and same issue so I thought I'd Google it.

Last saturday I went to dinner with the wife, parked the fit behind the restaurant. When I came back out (approx 90 to 120 minutes later) there was a crack about 18 inches up starting from the driver's side edge and going about 8 to 9 inches in.. No sign of physical damage.

At first I thought maybe the big @ssed truck that had been parked beside me hit it, but then I realized my Fit was much higher into the space... and he was parked in the same direction, his door would have hit the very back edge of my door had he slammed it into me.

Next day the crack increased about 4 more inches, now with a little hook at the edge. You can feel the crack on the outside but not the inside.

Nationwide puts on their website they waive deductibles for windshield replacement, but on the phone they tell you that's only in SC, TN and FLA... quotes me about $350 and apparently Safelite won't be able to do it for 3 weeks.

Not finding too many places to get an honest and direct quote though.

It was cold/raining outside. I turned the defroster on to defrost my windshield. About 30 seconds to a minute after turning the heat on the window made a huge crack sound and a crack appeared. The crack gradually grew to about 6 inches long over the course of several minutes. the car was not moving at the time.

My windshield cracked with no collision whatsoever. One call to the dealer made it seem that I will have to cover the cost of replacement. I need to call the service people today, but haven't done so yet. The person I spoke with on Sunday had never heard of a windshield crack that just appeared on its own, which is definitely what occurred in my case. I'm just looking for reassurance that this has happened to other cars, and apparently it has but Honda has not reported the problem???

Update from Aug 15, 2012: The dealer replaced the windshield under warranty for no charge. They sent the windshield to Honda for further inspection. Presumably, if Honda sees some critical mass, it will address the problem.
