2009 HONDA SHOULD NOT HAVE CLEAR COAT PROBLEMS. I AM SURE THIS HAS LOWERED RESALE VALUE OF THIS CAR. HONDA WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. WAITING ON ESTIMATE OF WHAT IT WILL COST TO FIX THIS.
The clear coat is almost completely faded on the entire roof. This is an expensive fix that I have not had to deal with on cars 10 years older with over 100k miles more. I will not buy a Honda in the future or recommend to others as this issue appears to be widespread and has gone unaddressed by Honda.
The roof of the car is all chalky looking and resale value will be impacted. This same paint was used on Accord under the name Deep Saphire Blue Pearl. It appears that there was a recall covering the Accord but not the Fit.
This is for Honda... The peeling on the fit started a few months after I purchased a 2015 Accord. Had it started before, this purchase would have never happened. You know this is a problem, do the right thing and recall the 2009 Fit's for paint issues. If it is fixed, no big deal, should I have to repaint myself, I will NEVER purchase a new or used Honda in my lifetime and I plan to let as many people know about this issue and your lack of help as I possibly can through social media and word of mouth.

The paint and/or clear coat is peeling on the hood and the roof of my car. Honda personnel told me that I was not "detailing" enough or properly. I asked about options and was told I could get my car repainted, but they did not offer anything on behalf of Honda. When I asked if Honda would fix this, I was told no.
I had a Toyota for 20 years and never had a paint problem, or really any significant engine issues. I am very disappointed with what I perceive to be shoddy work or materials, with no recourse available from the corporate seller. I will not buy another Honda.
The clear coat has completely deteriorated on the roof of my blue 2009 Honda Fit and has started to deteriorate on the hood of the vehicle as well. It's so frustrating to see it and realize that this merely cosmetic issue will significantly decrease the value of my car, should I wish to sell it in the future and also, makes it look horrible. It's embarrassing and a total eyesore! My wife's 2009 Toyota Camry is also blue and has no issues with its paint. I've considered the option of having the roof and the hood repainted but the cost is too high! Honda makes quality vehicles that I like but I cannot live with the fact that my Honda Fit received such poor quality paint from the factory! I take great care of my vehicle, making sure to perform all maintenance in accordance with the maintenance schedule. Honda needs to issue a program to have vehicles like mine with this paint quality issue properly repainted at no cost!
I buy a 2009 Honda Fit Sport and in a matter of 3 years the paint began to look different, instead of the red color that I choose it was looking more like pink. 3 years after I noted that the clear coat turns white and began to fall damaging the paint in the process. In addition, the doors black paint that is on the arch of the door start falling off. I notice that this same problem happened to the Honda Civic and the Odyssey models so it must be a manufacturer problem.
Bought the car used, and didn't notice the paint until AFTER the purchase. Have seen other Honda Fits on the road with clear coat failing as well. Honda dealer didn't care and auto body shop wanted big bucks to repaint the car.
This car looks like a beater car. We bought a Honda with the idea that it would retain its value.. haha! Looking to buy a more family friendly car in the next year or two and doubt we will get much out this purely because the paint looks terrible.
The clear coat on my deep blue 2009 Honda Fit is deteriorating badly. It is cloudy and flaking off and starting to expose the paint all over the roof. I have never had this happen on any other car. This shouldn't be happening on a 6 year old car. I also read another complaint from someone with the exact same car who had the same problem 3 years earlier. It looks like Honda is doing an inferior paint job. I am very discouraged about this.
As noted on previous complaints, I too have severe delamination on the roof of my 2009 Blue Honda Fit.
I wash my car at least once per week and take very good care of it. Unfortunately, this condition eroded very quickly in the last 4 months. I have not taken it into Honda yet, but I will in the next few days. From what I am seeing through others with the same issue, they will most likely ignore it. However, they need to be aware of the number of people who are unhappy and will be buying another brand of car next. There are many 5 1/2 year old brands of cars that do not have this gross looking defect.
The roof of my 2009 Honda Fit Sport looks like a 25 year old car! The dealer (Classic Honda in Orlando, FL) shrugged it off, since the 3 year warranty has expired. Honda "customer service reps" keep giving me the company line" It is Honda's position that there is not an issue with the paint on the Fit model". Oh yeah, take a look at my car! I know none of the Honda decision makers would accept this on their own vehicles, so why should I?
I have sent my complaints along with numerous reports of other dissatisfied Honda owners to various departments within Honda Company, and still get the standard comeback, "It is Honda's position...." Very frustrating as I am still paying for a car that looks like a clunker!
I just noticed a spot on my hood as well, so the fun continues. I take very good car of my car and this happens?
Honda quality ain't what it used to be! I've owned FIVE Hondas and am very disapointed in the lack of quality and customer service from Honda.
How many more Fit owners do they need to hear from to address this issue? Fit owners UNITE!!
Update from Oct 9, 2014: FYI: The "technical" term for what my car (and MANY others apparently) is experiencing is called
DE-LAMINATION. The clear coat is blistering, for lack of a better description and it looks really bad!
Update from Aug 1, 2016: Update (to Laurie) I got fed up with getting NOWHERE with Honda at the corporate level, so I contacted the General Manager of the local dealer I started with, Classic Honda of Orlando. For whatever reason he had the Service Manager contacted be right away, saying a Honda Rep was there and saw my email (?) Honda gave me a "One time only" courtesy warranty and covered $500 toward repainting only the affected areas. The service manager did me a solid and negotiated a lower price with the paint place, and I "only" had to pay a little under $300 to have it painted. I shouldn't have had to pay anything, but... They did an fabulous job, the car looked terrific and all was well. UNTIL, now the same thing is starting along thesections above the doors on both sides!!! Whaaat? I took it to the same place and he said yes, the delamination is starting there too. Nothing caused it, nothing will keep it from happening, just POOR QUALITY paint job from Honda!! I am not getting the entire car painted, and I am also NOT BUYING ANOTHER HONDA AGAIN! I am one very disappointed Honda girl, but Subaru is going to have a new customer next time I purchase a vehicle. GOOD LUCK!
