Honda replaced the ignition and key; I now have one key to open the door and another for the ignition. The warranty for the $542 ignition and new key $120 is 120 days which gives me lots of confidence.
Update from Dec 12, 2017: Three weeks after having the ignition and key replaced the key stuck again. I took the car back to Honda and was told there was nothing they could do because they could not replicate the problem. I also showed them the old ignition and key, showing them that the old key now worked although not all the time. I had them write a note on my file. Two weeks later, same thing, the key stuck in the ignition.
Update from Feb 9, 2018: I contacted the dealership and Honda Canada in January 2018 as the new key continues to stick in the new ignition and received no response. I have filed a complaint with BBB and will be proceeding with the Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council to ensure Honda addresses this problem while the part is under warranty.
