I have owned 5 Hondas over the years but I will never drive the Fit again. How can you trust a vehicle that won't stop when you need it too? I was driving 25 mph on dry pavement in clear daylight. The vehicle in front of me stopped suddenly for a Firetruck pulling out and when I slammed the clutch and brake to the floor, I had nothing and kept going right into the back of their vehicle. I was lucky I was not hurt more seriously! The worst thing is that I find out later that numerous Fits have been recalled for soft brakes worldwide and many others have reported complete failure under the same circumstances as mine. In addition there is the problem of "surging" forward when your brakes are depressed or you are stopped. On icy roads at any speed you often have a "click, click, click" noise and loss of brake when you try to stop. This appears to be intermittent so when you try to get help, you are told that it is because you hit the brake and gas at the same time. NO WAY! I had $9600.00 worth of damage and Honda won't admit there is anything wrong. When I called American Honda Corp to complain I stated that it was loss of brake function during an emergency stop. I received a call back from someone in their "claims" dept who stated that she was calling about my "unintended acceleration problem". Something stinks here and I think they know it!! I purchased this car in Dec of 2010. It was a Honda Certified Used Car -only 2 years old. I had to explain this to the claims person because she asked me about the previous services about the brakes(the check brakes visits were noted on the CarFax) which I had no knowledge of. Then I was told they would get back to me. Meanwhile, I have no car and haven't even made the first payment. With the exception on the NHTSA, every person I have contacted about this through Honda treats me as if I am a nutjob and frankly I'm sick of it! I am 44 with a very responsible job and the respect of my bosses and co-workers. I am the one who is calm and levelheaded in a crisis. If anyone else has had a similar problem as I have described or has had the brakes checked on their 2007, 2008, 2009 Fit or if the brakes seem to function strangely...Get rid of the car if you can!! We are in the same position as all those Toyota owners before the massive news story broke and widespread recalls! I can only hope no deaths are a result of this problem before Honda will admit there could be a problem and recall them.
