I bought my 2008 Honda Fit with only 60,000 km on it in 2014. It was in apparently great condition, except I noticed that it didn't have the same glossy finish that other cars have. I asked the dealer about it, and he said, ""Oh, all you have to do is give it a good wax." Well, I waxed the heck out of it with no positive effect. The paint just ate up all the wax and a completely matte finish remained. Finally I've decided to have a professional try to fix the problem. The first body repair shop I went to said, "Oh no, the only thing you can do is have the whole car painted again, for $4,000". Like I have that much money to spend! Fortunately, I have found another body specialist who has dealt with 2 other white Honda Fits with the same problem in the past 3 months and he had great results with his approach. It will cost about $850 Canadian, so I'm going for it. Polish (wash and decontamination), plus wax sealant with CQuartz. It will take 1.5-2 days, and he said it will look like it's brand new off the lot, and I won't need to wax it every 3-6 months as I would if I used a basic wax. I'm hoping this works well!
Update from Nov 18, 2017: So a business called Waxed Detailing managed to fix the paint problem with an extensive cleaning, waxing, and polishing job with a product called CQuartz. My car looks brand new! It cost $850, so better than spending $4,000 on repainting the whole car. He said that from now on I will only need to bring it in once per year for a $150 maintenance of the coat. Yay!
