A D V E R T I S E M E N T S
I bought my 2010 new from the dealer (Oct/Nov of that year). Like many others, I had no idea what a headache the TPMS system would end up being!!
While it wasn't that bad when it told me (especially at the beginning of our brutal winters) that air was a little low somewhere, the fact that it would never tell you WHERE was just plain lame!!
So, within a few years of me having this vehicle, all of a sudden the TPMS light went on & never went off. I did some research, & then found out my local Fleet Farm could check it out & let me know what the issue was.
They told me that two of my sensors needed to be replaced, at a cost I wasn't prepared to pay. (Worse than that, they completely screwed up one of my magnetic valve stem caps, & I had to call a week later that I couldn't even fill the time due to whatever that service person did! It's like the stem was messed up & you couldn't even attach an inflator to it! The guy told me to come in & they ended up doing something to replace that valve stem... BUTTTT - I'm thinking now, way after the fact, that I bet they screwed up that particular TPMS monitor, too... I may have only had one that was faulty before stopping in, but suddenly had two at the end of that check.)
My main complaint here is that once your TPMS goes on the fritz, even if it's only for one of your sensors to have a dead battery or whatever, then the system will no longer work until you have that fixed!. So basically you're out of luck having the other 3 (or whatever) perfectly good sensors perform the way they should. That really rubs me the complete wrong way!
I've dealt with that TPMS light on for the past 3/4 of a year, & now I barely notice it. Yes, it would be nice to have the notification, but knowing that I have at LEAST 2 sensors that need to be replaced (at the cost of $85/each, even with my upcoming tire replacement), I just don't want the extra expense. Heck, it could be 3 or 4 by now - who knows? Some places won't even replace your tires (Fleet Farm!) w/o you fixing it, while others will make you do some weird stem kit or something (Discount Tire). Luckily where I'm getting my tires (& $600 is already breaking the bank on those alone), I don't have to do anything related to that system...
Yes, I know I can take a chance & order replacement sensors at Amazon, etc., but then I'd have to find someone who would install them cheap enough & there's always the chance the system still wouldn't work afterall, or another sensor would quit in no time at all.
I HATE MY HONDA TPMS SYSTEM! It is the WORST system, not allowing you to see which wheel/tire is the problem. What a true forced RIP-OFF!!!!
